Funny thing is throughout the day I lost count of the number of women who said, "Hey, I own that dress." I mean they were coming out of the wood work. A sub at school. The drive-thru worker at McDonald's. Everybody and their mommas appear to own this dress.
When I took it off later that day, I immediately looked at the tag to see "who" I was wearing! Wal-Mart! Good, old-fashioned George brand from Wal-Mart. I wonder if it comes in any other colors? And I wonder if I can find more. I get aggravated at people who think you can't shop cheap and look chic.
Growing up, we were pretty poor. Thrift stores were really our only source of clothing; Wal-Mart was a rare treat, and I remember the shame of wearing something that other students may recognize as "off brand" because I knew I would be teased mercilessly. It's funny how the tables have turned. Now I love to see the looks on their faces when I say I got something at a thrift store or at Wal-Mart. So I guess my fashion lesson today is to not be a snob! Look anywhere for inspiration, and flaunt it proudly1

Do I spy a little bird on your bracelet? Cute!
That dress looks fabulous on you. It's no wonder so many people own it, it's such a pretty color! I hope you can hunt down more.
ITA. Its amazing what can be found on the cheap that looks great. I think people have been conditioned to rely on the mannequin for the entire look. Being without money as a child makes for a heck of a stylish grown up I believe :) More resourceful too. I thrifted the same dress in black lol
With all that said: You look AWESOME!!!
Looks GREAT on you! I found this $5 bag at Goodwill http://orangiesattic.blogspot.com/2012/02/friday-finds.html and have received more compliments on it than anything I've owned in years... makes me laugh every time. Some totally chi-chi lady with a GINORMOUS rock on her finger had a FIT over it last week. I just smiled slyly and told her thank you... sure she would DIE if she knew it was a Goodwill find, probably out of one of her friend's closets. ;)
That dress looks amazing on you. I also love your green polish and your makeup! Be sure to enter the giveaway I'm hosting on my blog<3

It's funny how now that we're older, thrifting is cool. As a teenager it was embarrassing to wear used or cheap clothes. Now, I'm proud when I tell people I got something for under $10!

I agree - a few years ago, I didn't know anyone that openly admitted they thrifted. Now, it sounds like the Thing To Do and I just have the hardest time getting into it. But every time I see a story like this, I always want to make a trip to Goodwill... Glad you have this find! :]]]

I love shocking people by telling them that I made something or that I got something from Walmart or Rue21. I often got new clothes for very cheap when I was growing up because things would tear and rip. I struggle to break out of the quantity over quality rut but it's hard to break away from the way we were raised.

This looks amazing on you... this color is gorgeous. Half my wardrobe is from thrift store... I feel like it's a constant fun game where I'm on the hunt for amazing pieces. I prefer the "activity" :)

That dress fits you beautifully and the color is gorgeous! :) Like your choice of accessories as well.
Thank you! My BFF has an etsy shop and she made the jewelry for me :)
I know! I LOVE the color. It's my new favorite spring color!
See, the hunt is my least favorite! That's why I'm thankful my mom does it, even if she isn't always successful!
Thank you! I do love the cut!
I know! I want to wear it EVERY day!!!
Me too! The disbelief in their eyes is always so funny!
It's definitely a hard habit to break- that's why so much of my stuff is from Target, Kohl's, Old Navy, etc, I just can't bring myself to spend a lot of money on stuff!
It's definitely become in vogue to thrift, but you're right- it used to be so "shameful'! It's too overwhelming for me, but when I see people with awesome stuff I wanna go too!
I definitely remember the embarrassment, but you are right, now it's "cool" Which I love!
I love the jade green, and your pants were amazing!
Thank you Cecilia! I'm going to check out that giveaway right now!
Don't you just love the satisfaction of knowing you got an awesome deal! That's a great story!
Thank you Keesha! I think that struggling with money definitely makes you more creative, and willing to take chances!
This bracelet is amazing! It's little buttons. Like the bird one is a bird and then the word early (so early bird). I also have smarty pants, trophy wife, copy cat, train wreck, and open book!
Gorgeous dress! This color looks amazing on you!
I love that dress on you, the colour is stunning! Also all those accessories are a dream - love the punch of colour everywhere, makes me so excited for spring!

Me too! I am soooo ready! Down here in the South though, it's definitely thawing out!
Thank you! :) I need to buy more stuff this color ;)
The green dress looks gorgeous on you!!
You look BEE U TI FUL!! I too grew up the poor kid - hand me downs, goodwill were very common place for me. I hate that as kids we feel such shame in this because if our peers. I thnk both Walmart and target have some great finds especially when we like variety so much. Keep rockin it girl.
Thank you!
Great shade of green and it looks great on you! I am a very firm believer in shopping cheap but looking chic! I love a good bargain!
I just found your blog. You Rock sweetheart!! I have 2 plus size daughters and they are like you in that they are fashionable and oh so cute!! I am so proud of them of course it took some years and age to gain the wisdom of love yourself!! I'm a retired special ed teacher by the way!! You have my Big Pat on The Back for doing what you do!!! Teaching is not easy in today's world and it takes a special person to wade thru all the political mumbo jumbo to find their MOJO. The kids deserve our best...now it's Your Best! My time has gone and I've passed the torch to a younger generation of teachers. I always like to give each one a hug and a "Go Get Em"
Blessings

Thank you so much for the awesome comment! It definitely takes time to love yourself just the way you are. I am blessed because my husband has loved me at every size and shape I've been over the past 14 years and he makes me feel beautiful!
I love hearing from teachers and former teachers! Thank you so much for that pep talk! Teaching is an incredibly difficult, but amazingly inspiring job. Thank you! Thank you! Thank You!
