Most of these rules have their basis in old highfalutin societal expectations . White clothing indicated you were wealthy enough to "summer" away from the dirty slums of the big city during the hottest months of the year. White dresses show disrespect for the bride as you are competing for attention. But white on wide people is a tougher rule to track down. The idea is wearing white acts as a spotlight, drawing the eye and the attention to the area swathed in white.
And that's supposed to be a bad thing... right? When Curtis saw me in today's outfit, he did a double take! He was speechless. So I guess having the spotlight all over my body worked out just fine.

I can see why Curtis did a double take! You look amazing in this dress, and I really love the details at the top. I think white looks really great against your skin; glad you broke this dumb rule! :)
You look gorgeous in white Katie! This is such a simple look, but so lovely :)

You are a vision in white! So lovely. And I really like the belt - gorgeous!
Love the look!
This dress looks great on you. Great shape and color. Yay! for breaking rules...
As your husband, I fully endorse you in this dress. I promise my speechlessness was due to you looking aaaaaaawwwwwwweeeeeesome and not my bronchitis.
I love this dress on you! I am glad you broke the "rules".
I love this dress! This week you are breaking a bunch of rules I just don't understand! Now, what is your take on pale girls wearing white. I feel like when I wear a white dress I just blend right into the dress.

Katie, this outfit is STUNNING. It hugs your curves in all the best places, and you look radiant.
You look amazing in all white, Katie! I love how you paired the top and skirt together...I thought it was a dress!

Love Love Love this dress! You look beautiful!
Soo cute! I think it looks amazing on you. The belt is awesome! I love how you put the skirt and tank together. I thought it was a dress, as did everyone else who's commented.
I think you are soo right about white, for any size. Being a size 6, I have a few insecurities wearing white pants sometimes. Although white shorts and capri pants are a favorite for summer. Rock that white girl!! =)
Yeah youre looking pretty hot in that "dress"...I totally love this look :) Im over all of these reasons why we cant just live our lives!
You look gorgeous in white!! So fresh and perfect for summer. I love how you are a rule breaker!

Thanks, Keesha! Luckily, we are brave enough to wear what we want. I am sad for the women who aren't that brave.
Thank you! I loved giving it a dress feel with the belt! And you are right, nothing says summer like white!
Thank you Sharon!
Thank you so much! I love this comment- I felt radiant!
Thank you, Amber!
I don't understand these rules either; that's the main reason for blogging about them! They are ridiculous! I think pale girls are beautiful and totally rock the white :)
I love you, my husband!
Long time no see! Hope the move went well! I need to go catch up on your blog!
Thank you, Joy!
Thank you, Annie!
Thank you! Me too!
You look stunning, white is fabulous on you. This rule breaking is inspirational, you have looked amazing in everything the 'rules' say to avoid. I am now thinking coloured jeans can work for me too x
My ex used to absolutely love white sundresses on me! Maybe it's something about the purity that drives the boys crazy! LOL
I did a double take as well - that outfit is gorgeous!
I totally thought that this was a dress! So pretty. I think white rule is so silly, you look awesome.
XO,

You look fantastic! I have been wanting a white dress that is work appropriate for quite some time. I was thinking about doing white dresses for my Weekly Wishlist feature on my blog, and now I know I just have to :)
I am loving how you refute every single one of these rules by totally rocking all of these trends! The white looks stunning on you, especially loving that close up smiling pic, so pretty.

Just found your blog this week and am loving it. So nice to see a fellow curvy gal doing such a stylish blog. I also really appreciate that your selections are very budget friendly to me. I'll definitely be back. :)
Oh Wow, you look amazing! A couple of years ago a friend mentioned that she found white to be slimming. When I gave it a try, I found that to be true as well. I remember wearing black patent leather shoes and not wearing white shoes before Easter. As far as I know it mostly applied to shoes and it was strictly adhered to when I was a child. I don't know when all that changed, but I'm glad it did.
You look great in this outfit! And I love the way you styled it. I totally thought it was a dress. Good work! :)

you are definitely rockin' the spotlight girl! love your entire outfit and the location of the pictures. beautiful!

How do you manage to wear white without getting it dirty? I seem to have no way of figuring it out.
I thought it was a dress too! Such a cute outfit - I can see this being a spring and summer uniform.
These two separates pair up perfectly -- I thought it was a dress at first. Great belt, too. You should wear white more often. :)
Thank you Carrie! I definitely thing I will be adding more white pieces to my wardrobe this season!
Definitely, Kori! This will be a go to!
Ha! Too pictures before I ate... I wasn't so clean afterwards! I am so messy!
Thank you so much, TJ!
Thank you, Kara! I love it with the belt and the sandals, although I'd love a white sundress too!
Yes! The shoe thing is super strict in the South. Is that where you grew up?
Thank you so much, Audrey! I am definitely budget friendly- side effect of growing up poor I guess. I'm so glad you'll be back!
Thank you, Alexandra!
Well, I can't wait to see the list because I;m pretty sure I need more white!
I think it's silly too! Thank you, Erin!
Oh most definitely, Kristin ;)
You better get some bright jeans and wear them proudly! I have a feeling you can rock them just fine!
Thank you so much, Marie! You are one of my inspirations! You always look chic and fresh!
Me too! I love that we are confident enough to wear what we want!
1. The 3rd pic is my Fave
2. With all those rules on wearing white, just when the heck CAN you wear white?!!?
3. You looks great! I love the tank top with the detailing on the front!
Apparently, you can wear white only after Memorial Day and before Labor Day and only if you are cute and tiny so you, sweet girl, are safe!!
With an almost 2 year old at home and a pet husband I don't think I'll be wearing white any time soon! :-)
Katie, I found you as a fellow BBC member over at Simply Klassic! LOVE love love your style and appreciate all you share. Seriously so inspiring. Your confidence and joy just shines through and ok your clothes are adorable. Anyway, just wanted to come say hi! I'm happy to be following along!
Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for visiting and for the kind words. I really appreciate it! This just made my day! I hope you'll be back often, and I am going over to check out your blog right now!
You are rocking this white outfit, honey. I see why Curtis took a second look. I have that same shirt in navy and a denmi pencil skirt. I will try it on and send a pic.
Thank you, Brianna!
