All Matchy-Matchy

Yep, I admit it- I am one of THOSE people. Those people who like to be all matchy with the family when I know family photos will be taken. It drives Curtis crazy; Sean's too young to understand. I can't help it. We don't do it every year, but I think it's so cute and put together. We skipped last year because Curtis so hated the year before when I made us all wear navy blue and bright pink, but this year we were back in our matching glory!

Curtis hates when people comment on our coordinating outfits, but I think to myself, "Uh-huh. I bet you looked as good as this family." Interestingly, at the church on Easter Sunday, I ran into a huge high school crush when we were both taking our kids down to the children's church. I never would have recognized him, but Curtis leaned over and whispered in my ear. All the sudden I felt 15 and insecure again. Do I say something; do I avoid him?

In the end, I said a polite hello, and he said hello back and that was it. Nothing exciting. Nothing to write home about. I just find it interesting that I would still care after all these years. I even asked Curtis afterwards,"Do you think he recognized me?" I was so unforgettable in high school that it wouldn't surprise me at all (but that's another story for another day!).

To which my husband said, "How could anyone ever forget you?" I love that man. Even more than I love this yellow and blue color block dress from Kohl's. Although this dress is pretty amazing- and unforgettable.

I'm teaming up with Marissa at Shabby, Chic, and Cheap and declaring it a "Week Without Pants". This isn't *really* a stretch for me, but I love a challenge of being told I can't wear something! Join in! I used to hate wearing dresses because I felt like I was being to dressy or drawing attention to myself, but now I prefer dresses and I think if you spent a week without pants- you'd feel the same :)

Now that it's getting warmer, for me it's 2 seasons without pants. I love that dress and I love so many of Kohl's spring / summer items. So many cute dresses there!

I hardly ever wear pants now that I think about it... I'm usually always in a dress or skirt. Annnnd speaking of dresses, this one is so cute, love the colors. I think the color-coordinating outfits are cute! At least you guys aren't wearing the same shirts, that would be lame.

How awkward that you ran into an old crush, I would definitely have gotten weird and nervous too. Although, I was far from unforgettable in high school, so I'm sure I could have gotten away with just staring from afar and never being recognized :D

That yellow/blue colorblock dress is just gorgeous on you, Katie! I love the photo of your family and your matching outfits...so cute!

Your story about running into your crush reminds me of when we were on vacation in the Bahamas and ran into a guy I dated in college. Can you say awkward?!

Good luck with your pantsless week! I'm a teacher too and I went from Thanksgiving to Christmas break without wearing pants to school. I might do it again this spring with all of my summery dresses, but my colored denim is calling my name pretty loudly too.

You are so welcome!

You are too sweet! I also love the combo of blue and yellow- it's one of my favorites!

As far as high school- I definitely didn't have the confidence or sense of style ;) I have today... I was super nice, but sadly in high school boys didn't seem very interested in that!

Thanks Mandy! Takes a beautiful family to know a beautiful family! :)

You are always too sweet!! I know the day will come when Sean wants to dress himself, so I am enjoying it while I can!

I think looking divine is the best revenge when running into an old crush! Yep, boy, you missed out! ;)

Yeah, Friday is going to be tough because we are allowed to wear jeans!! I always love hearing from teachers! I hope you'll be back!

Oh geez, did I say unforgettable! I've got to proofread better! I was the biggest, lamest dork-o ever!

Thanks for the compliments on the family and the dress! I love them all :)

Okay, you're story is WAY MORE awkward! That's awful!

Thanks you so much! I am loving this colorblock and the dress made it super easy!!

Oh geez, in HS Curtis went to church with this married couple in their thirties and they totally always wore matching polo shirts. It was so weird!!

I know! Kohl's is KILLING me with cuteness. I shop almost exclusively online because my store doesn't have nearly the selection! I read your love letter to Lauren Conrad- it's my fave line there for sure!

LOVE this dress and the colors on you!! Can't wait to see the rest of your dresses this week! Thanks for being a pants-less bliend with me this week! :)

Enjoy being able to dress Sean while you can. My boys are 14 and swear that "no one else dresses up for family beach photos". Yeah, only everyone I know! Y'all look great and not overly matchy-matchy. I was mostly anonymous in high school, so I can't wait to hear why you were unforgettable.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thanks so much, Hannah!

You have such a beautiful family!! I hope you had a wonderful Easter! Men don't know anything about fashion! I just remind mine that he makes the tech decision and I make the clothing ones ;)

The coordinated family outfits look great. :)
Love that dress, and the idea of a "Week Without Pants" ... I'll be challenging myself to hang up the jeans for a week or two pretty soon!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I'm going to regret it Friday because that's the only day of the week I am allowed to wear jeans!!

love that Kohl's dress Katie- and can't believe how Sean gets more handsome every time I see another pic. Such a cutie.
AND I'm dying to know who the HS crush was. Thankfully, being far away means that never happens here- but I remember at the reunion feeling very jittery about seeing some people for sure.
happy belated easter!

That dress is KILLER! And it sounds like you have quite the keeper with Curtis, what a sweetie!

I just started wearing pants again, dresses are so easy, so flattering, and so fun to wear!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I have very blessed, Allie! And I agree with you- I love dresses. They take so much LESS effort but look so put together! Thank you so much for visiting- I am honored!

Thank you so much! He is such a clown- he's totally got Curtis's sense of humor :)

And the crush was Andrew W. But don't ever tell anyone ;) I thought he was so cute!
