This weekend was hectic- bowling on Friday, prom on Saturday (blog post forthcoming), photo shoot with local photographer on Sunday- and the first two events wreaked havoc on my old-lady back. Remember the Judy Blume book Deenie? The main character (Deenie, duh!) has scoliosis and I sympathized with her in junior high, especially when I was diagnosed with scoliosis myself. Because of the scoliosis, my back pretty much hurts all the time, but it's just something I've grown up with and pretty much deal with. However, between bowling, and standing for hours at prom in super-uncomfortable shoes, Sunday morning at 4:00 A.M. I awoke in some serious "can't roll over to get out of bed and pee" back pain.

Somehow, seemingly overnight, I have gotten old! How did this happen? It's a struggle because as a teacher, each year I get older, but my students stay the same age! Heck sometimes I feel like I am still 17, okay, well maybe 25. But no, here I am with gray hairs and foot pains and I've "thrown out" my back. The other day a student said to me, quite cheerfully and sincerely, "You're not old! Just think, you were fifteen when I was being born!" Geez, thanks a lot! That doesn't make me feel old at all.
Come on, I still recognized the music being played at prom! I can't be that old... right?
And if all else fails, Curtis will still be older than me!

Sometimes I still feel 18 as well! But then I started working in a coffee shop where EVERYONE was younger than me, like actually still 18, and they delighted in making me feel old. Not cool team, not cool.
Do you feel the need to wear excessively pretty/girly clothes when you are feeling bad? I do that a lot when I'm sick. Instead of curling up in sweats or pjs I throw on something rather dressy, as if I'm going to convince myself to feel better by wearing nice clothes.
Sometimes I still feel like I am the same person I was at 18, but then I manage to throw out my back or sprain my neck just by sleeping and I realize I am old. Or I shake my head in confusion at teenagers.

i'm a school librarian, and all of the people I work with have decided that the kids get older, but we don't! Works for us...
What a cute dress, love it with the yellow cardi! Hope your back feels better! I found a gray hair a few months back and had an anxiety attack!

I am so in love with this dress! The colors and pattern are beautiful.

Thank you so much! I am slightly addicted to Old Navy's chiffon dresses!
I know! I have had gray hairs literally since 13 years old, but every time I find one, I am so depressed! Thank goodness for hair dye!
I love this! I'm going to start trying this out :)
I avoid teens at all costs on the weekends! I get enough during the week! This back throwing out business is serious and painful, although I am enjoying surfing the net and watching Ghost Whisperer!
If I have to work and I am sick, then I definitely fake it! I have to be there I might as well look good!
And yes, teens LOVE to remind you of how OLD we are!
Awww, thank you Sarah! I really appreciate it!
Thank you! Thank you, Annie. I appreciate it all :)
Thank you, BBFF!
I still feel like I'm 18 a lot of the time! When people ask me my age sometimes it takes me a few minutes to respond, haha. I hope your back feels better, Katie! My hubby suffers from chronic back pain...it breaks my heart to see him in pain every day.

oh no! if i knew how to type one of those sad faces i'd do it, i hope it all eases, you look like a delight though, and you are not old! your skin is flawless, its always glowing (i will appreciate any tips) enjoy your break x
super adore your outfit!!! great colors!
Thank you, Sandy!
I don't often feel old, but I'm telling you- today I feel 60, not 30! I have got to start taking care of myself!
As far as my skin goes- I actually struggle with break outs, but I've had lots of luck with BB creams (have you heard of those- they are Beauty Balms- like really thick tinted moisturizers). I apply it all over and let it set for 10 minutes. Then I use a mineral powder all over and dot a little on any break outs. Hope that helps!
I used to have that problem remembering my age. Until I turned 30. 30 is nice and easy to remember :/
I seriously love your earrings!
My boytoy has back problems and he isn't quite 30 yet, and he never even had scoliosis. So I think you're fine there ;) Hope that your back is feeling better, though.
P.S. Your hubby is a total cutie in that picture.
Thank you! I got the earrings at a little jewelry store in Seaside, Florida while on vacation last fall. No website so I couldn't link it!
I love this cute floral print on you Katie! I feel ya on the pains. I'm 30 and have been dancing for years so I definitely feel aches in the joints. Greetings from Atlanta!
Hello Atlanta :) We are neighbors! Dancing is tough- I was in a musical last year at the high school where I teach (long story) and I thought it was going to kill me!
The beauty of marrying an older man? You'll always be his hot, young wife. :) My hubby is 13 years my senior, which makes him crazy when I pick on him!
you can't be too old if you remember your prom music, so don't worry!
that first image is just beautiful!
xo TJ
Thank you, TJ! That's what I'm counting on! As long as I still listen to the music I will stay forever young!
That's true! That's also the beauty of marrying a big man (6'4" and 250)- I should always be smaller!!
SEE?! It's a perfect arrangement. :) Hooray Curtis for being perfect for Katie!
Loving the color scheme. And yes, the college students I work with don't understand when I tell them I'm old (as they pick white hairs out of my head for me). They think I'm saying it as a put-down to myself, but I'm just stating facts. The body ain't working like it used to! Nor is the mind, for that matter haha.
Exactly!! I have no real problem being 30. I have kids that try to suck up and say "You're 21" and I always correct them! I'm proud to be thirty, but I don't like the falling apart aspect... that shouldn't happen till 60!!!
