A Mid-Week Rant: Passive Aggressive Peeing

So, I kinda have a secret that I've been keeping...

... While I try to project this image of positive, fun-loving gal, sometimes I have a bad attitude. Sometimes I get grumpy. Sometimes I feel the rage growing and I have to rant. This is one of those times. Here's my mini-list of things bugging me today.

1. People who drive under the speed limit on the interstate.
Look- I've gotten three interstate tickets over the years. I know they suck. I know you shouldn't speed in work zone or text and drive. But why, for the love of God, are you driving fifty MPH when the speed limit is 70?!?!

Dress- Dorothy Perkins online (sold out)
Wedges- American Eagle for Payless

2. I am the last person to criticize people for their parenting skills. My own parenting skills are often lacking and I am by no means a  perfect parent, but why, oh why, are you not picking your kid up from school? Some afternoons I get home before the bus gets to my neighborhood (4:00 pm), and I can barely turn onto my street because of all the cars parked, waiting for kids to get off the school bus. If you aren't at work and you have a car, go pick your kid up at 3!!!! Why make them ride all over town for an hour?? I'm sure there is a legitimate excuse, but I'm struggling to find one.

3. Cleaning up pee in the teachers/ lounge. Look, I'm going to be honest, I'm not much for cleaning. I don't really like cleaning my own home, so I can assure I really don't like cleaning at work. I especially don't like wiping pee off the toilet seat in the dang teachers' lounge! We are all college-educated adult, yet some how we don't have the common courtesy to keep it clean? What the crap?!? So starting tomorrow, I'm going to post a sign in the bathroom. Yes, it's totally passive aggressive, but sometimes that's just how I roll.

It's going to say, "If you can't sink it in the hole, then put your butt on the bowl!  Signed- Not Your Momma (so clean up after yourself)" If you can come up with something better than that, I'll make TWO signs or TEN signs. Whatever. I just need to get my point across. That's just ridiculous. Seriously.

And now one thing I am happy about!

I love this new Dorothy Perkins dress (sold out online, but also available in a pencil skirt). It's so bright and colorful! I bought it the same time I got the white dress and I can tell they are going to be well-loved!

LOVE this outfit on you. Im a big dotty p's fan. and those wedges are so cute. Im totally with you on the pick up your kids thing, especially if theyre sahm's. Why make kids bus it if they dont have to?
And the pee thing, well that just made me laugh at my desk..so thank you! Good luck with the pee mission! :)x

That totally made me laugh Katie - I had to re-read the post title a few times....I was like, does it really say peeing? But I totally hear ya on that rant! And you look so pretty in this outfit, I LOVE the dress, and those yellow shoes go perfectly with it :)

Totally agree on the interstate driving and the peeing issues but not the pick up your child from school. I am a stay at home mom and I don't pick my kids up from school. I don't even pick them up from the bus stop 2/10ths of a mile away unless it's raining or I'm already out for whatever reason. I just can't see wasting the gas in my car. Then again, I live out in the country so would be driving 36 miles round trip. Instead of driving to the bus stop, maybe those moms could actually walk to pick up their kids? Bus stops usually aren't that far from home.

Alliedawn_98 said...

BTW, I don't have little kids. Mine are 18 and 12 so they are fully capable of making their way home in the afternoon.

I still don't understand how grown women can get pee on the seat. I have a vision of women dancing around while they hover over the bowl. It's the only explanation.
I love your Dorothy Perkins purchases. I might just have to start ordering some stuff from there, even before I journey across the ocean to Scotland.

My Grammy always says "If you sprinkle when you tinkle, please be neat and wipe the seat."
I almost wrote a passive aggressive text to my roommate this morning about her habit of leaving hair in the shower drain, so this entry made my day:)

PS: Cute dress!

Beautiful dress, the print is gorgeous! Wow, I can't believe the teacher's are keeping the toilets dirty, at first I thought you were going to say it was the students...that's just bad.

I loved the print- I'm already crazy about birds, but this was so unique!

I wish I could say it was students (and frankly, their bathrooms are worse), but grown people?! They should be embarrassed!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Well, clearly common sense like your Grammy's has skipped a generation! I am passive aggressive to the hilt. Not proud of it, but I am!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I know, right?! I thought it was common knowledge that you can't catch diseases from toilet seats and that they are actually cleaner than door knobs. Just sit!

I am going to have to block all my shopping web sites from my computer so I can't keep buying stuff on line!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I don't always pick my son up from day care, sometimes my husband does, so I definitely can't criticize, but these are little kids- elementary school. I agree, once they get to high school and junior high, I don't feel so bad for them. But at the same time, I guess working as a high school teacher, there is NO WAY in H-E-L-L I will EVER let my kindergartener ride a school bus with the "big kids". The very notion terrifies me. I just feel like if you don't expect the kid to walk from the bus stop at the end of the street (dead end- 15 houses total) to your house, then why would you have them ride the bus? They are just babies! And school is very close, within two miles. Sorry for the novel. But I agree with you!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I just don't get it! So yuck!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Annie! I am pretty in love with the dress.

Yeah, you know, I'm classy! Talking about pee over on the fashion blog!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you so much! It's a little big (need to learn to sew this summer). this is my second dress from DP, but I am definitely a fan!

I love making people laugh, so I'm glad you got a kick out of it! :) Have a great Thursday!

That floral dress looks so pretty on you, Katie!

We have the same peeing on the seat problem in our employee bathroom and it drives me nuts. Someone posted a sign that says, "the last man to pee on the seat is buried in the backyard." It hasn't helped, FYI.

I saw a sign with something similar: "If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie."

Courtney_L said...

When I was small, we lived in a relatively safe suburban neighborhood. We were close enough to my school that I either walked or rode my bike starting about halfway through the 1st grade. I sometimes got a ride if the weather was nasty, but my mom had a variable schedule and so sometimes I slogged the half-mile to school in the pouring rain. My elementary school opened half-way through my first grade year. Before that, I rode a bus to the school we hived off from. I didn't have any problems on the elementary school bus for the half-year I rode. My middle school bus was OK safety-wise, but completely "uncool." The bus safety issues didn't arise for me until high school.

Oh Katie, you are hilarious! I love your dress, it's so pretty! And... we all get grumpy and have to rant. I rant to my husband, and he just looks at me with a blank stare and then offers some ice cream. Ha, it's why I married him. But really... pee on the toilet? Gross. I thought women knew how to put toilet paper down on the seat to pee, no? I love your sign!

In our school district, all kids ride the same buses- it's not divided into elementary, middle and high school. So a six-year-old is riding the same bus as a 16 or 17 year old trouble maker. That makes me super uncomfortable as a mom and a teacher.

cheapchicinchicago said...

OMG, I'm totally with you on the last one. I like your quote for the sign. I was going to make one for my office that says "If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie." I hate hoverers anyway, but if you piss on the seat, wipe it up!

Laurel Walker said...

What's your experience been like with Dorothy Perkins? I've been lusting after their dresses but just can't bring myself to order. I'm notoriously cheap when it comes to spending for myself.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I like them a lot. The dress are cute, but the quality of the fabrics seems a little cheap. They wrinkle badly. Also I'm kinda in between sizes- Too busty for a 16 and too small for an 18. However I love the structured feel of the pieces... check out their sale dresses, pretty cheap options!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I just don't get the hovering anyway. Are you try to get in a quick thigh workout? Peeing is sometimes the only chance I have to sit, I'm going to cherish it. And I don't want to sit in a puddle of someone else's pee. Gross!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I used to rant to my husband, but he never gave me ice cream. Now I rant here!

Keesha said...

Ok your rant just made my day! The pee thing with adults has to stop! In other news, you look beautiful in this dress :)

I am in love with this dress. I can't see myself spending this much though :( maybe I should take up sewing!

and don't worry about venting, we all need to vent every so often. (Sometimes I feel like I do it too much! haha)

Gorgeous dress! I love the bold print and the colors.
I have a complaint similar to #2 ... I help run an afterschool program and we always have kids picked up late. And not just 5 or 10 minutes late, but up to an hour after the program ended! Don't people notice they're missing a kid???
Also, eww to #3. Unbelievable!

peeing on the seat! we share our bathroom with male colleagues, all ladies have perfected a step in, bolster ourselves and glance approach to the loo - we are not shy and squeal a lot and moan a lot and its super gross! moaning and grumpiness is good, why keep it in? i find a good old moan ends with a right laugh and all is good again with the world - and i do like your dress! x

Awww, I understand, Katie! It's important to portray not only the great things in life on our blogs, right? That's just not realistic ;) Anyway, your complaints are totally common and valid lol however, your dress is ADORABLE. You look amazing, and those shoes with it are to die for! Also, you are such a natural at posing! Seriously. Your pics always looks so good :)

And thank you for the dress love!
