100 Degrees in the Shade

Memorial Day arrived with a vengeance! It is officially too hot to survive, and it's just going to get worse. It's not even June yet and our long weekend temps hovered around 100 degrees. Geez Louise! We grilled out yesterday, and despite the heat we had a great time. It was an awesome kickoff to the summer season!

Dress- OLD!!! (Similar from Target- On Sale for $15!)

So this is pretty much the summer uniform in these parts. Cotton tanks dress. Hair pulled up. Minimal accessories. Hope you don't hate it because you are going to see it a lot in the coming months. I swear my bangs are causing my body temp to run like 20 degrees higher than it should, so you'll also probably see lots of super awkward bang pics too. Awesome all around!

I love a great cotton tank dress and you look great in this. That belt is fantastic :) I'm with you on the hot weather- I hate it!

Love the dress :) Where can I find something similar? (Love your blog, too, btw)
Thanks!

I love that owl belt. It only hit about 85 in NJ, but we had some pretty intense humidity. This summer is going to be pretty brutal. And I do love your summer uniform. I look forward to more versions of it.

I love your head scarf and that owl belt, so cute! Haha, your bangs are making you feel hotter. I love hot weather, it's the humidity that I dislike. Mostly because my hair just gets out of control!

Thank you! The humidity is awful down here too! As soon as you walk outdoors, you start sweating. Ugh! It's going to be really tough to look cute this summer ;)

You looked cute for the cookout :) I feel you on the heat. Bama weather is not for the faint of heart.

The humidity is always the killer! I just bought four more plain cotton tank dresses this weekend! Enjoy!! ;)

Linda, I am working on a polyvore set with cheap summer dresses, but I did update the blog with a similar dress from Target- currently on sale for $15!

Thank you, Sarah! I wish it could be fall year round- 70 and sunny is PERFECT for me!

Cotton sundresses are the best for those hot, humid days. Love the head scarf with it!

I love the head scarf! I would love to try that sometime...I'm just not sure I could pull it off. Hey, I went to your profile page and it lists 3 blogs (Hems for her is in the middle). I just thought you should know because if someone clicks on the first blog, it won't take them here. Just wanted to let you know so you don't lose readers....Have a great day!!

Katie you look soo cute, and I LOVE your hair!! We could only wish for a 100 degree day here. For reals, it NEVER hits 100. It'll be somewhere between 72 - 75 and people are complaining it's too hot. I will say we aren't ready for high temps like that, no one really has central AC here. Maybe a couple rich people. ; ) Growing up in the Northern valley in CA I was used to biking around in 100+ weather. Now I would die! Being up in Canada for 12 years has thickened my blood to the consistency of pudding. lol

Can't wait to see the new dresses you got! And I read in the comments you're creating some boards on Polyvore. Aren't all the options crazy?? I could spend 1/2 an hour looking for the perfect necklace for an outfit. Have a great week! =)

Yikes, 100 degrees already?! I think it reached 90 here where I work but it was much cooler at the beach.

You look SO cute in the headscarf! My hair is also always up in the summer and cotton is def the way to go.

Girl, yes, this Alabama heat is a killer! I was baking yesterday! I love this look! I already see myself living in cotton and maxi dresses this summer. I have been in a maxi for the past 2 days. I found some really cute ones at Walmart for $16 this weekend. I may have to make another trip to Walmart for a couple more, and then to Target for a couple of $15 dresses. Tis the season for the comfy cool dress!

I ordered some from both Wal-Mart and Target. My Wal-Mart didn't have anything good, but there's some great stuff online! You are my kind of shopper!

Well, they are coming, I promise!

The beach! :( You are killing me. I spent a big chunk of the afternoon in the kiddie pool, but it's not quite the same!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I can definitely do that!

Thank you so much for following and for the comment!

I can't imagine living somewhere without central AC. It would be awesome on the 75 degree days up there, but I couldn't handle the cold. Cold for me is 65 and under ;) I can't believe you were able to adjust with all that Cali blood!

Polyvore is so overwhelming, hence why when I make sets they are SUPER simple- nothing like what you do!!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thanks for the heads-up, Amy!

And you should totally try the head scarf :) Hoping you have a great day too!

in england we are having a 'heatwave' so far it has lasted a few days and we have reached a spectacular high of about 78 degrees where i live heehee (we also had one in april- i think lasted a whole 3 days!)and pathetically i am melting - you look so relaxed, chilled and cool, and i love your hair with the scarf - after suffering our current heat levels, i have managed to look both sweaty (or as we were told in school-glowing) and uncomfortable - i shall be looking to you for hot weather looks so bring it on! xx

Dang, where do you live!? That's insane.
It's barely hitting 70's here.
Anyway, love this blue dress you're wearing. Cute belt and accessories!

Love how you accessorized this! I second the request for a headscarf tutorial. :) Hmm, it was in the mid-80s this weekend but that definitely can't compete with the hot weather where you are!

well, you are kicking the heat in the butt with your adorable outfit!

It may have been a hundred degrees but you look wonderfully cool in this tank dress and gorgeous up do! I can never get my curly mop of hair to look this beautiful! I love the scarf as well. Temperatures dropped again in my neck of the woods and we're back to wearing hoodies. Sigh. I'd like to add my name to the list of petitioners for the head scarf tutorial! :)

I am already a lazy person, so in the summer I don't even want to leave the house... it's going to get interesting on the fashion blog this summer ;)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Once it gets into the mid-80s and higher, it's too hot. I can't tell the difference between 85 and 95 really- it's all miserable!! I'm working on the headscarf tutorial already!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I love mild weather like that! I'm jealous!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I promise I was sweaty and nasty- I mean glowing ;)

Hot weather is so miserable!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

This messy top bun and the scarf hid a multitude of sins, believe me! If I do a head scarf tutorial you guys will see what a mess my hair usually is in the summer! I pack up the straightener and the curling iron and the hair dryer and it gets wild!!

I absolutely love this look, Katie, and it looks great on you! Saturday was way too hot for me, too and I was stuck outside at a graduation party at the hottest part of the day. I also went the cotton dress route and felt at least a little relief. Hopefully it cools down a bit for you, we are back at 66 for a high today (huge change from the 96 degrees that it was all weekend!).

Jeez louise - I know...the heat is intense! Saturday was pretty bad! ;-) At least Hurricane Beryl brought in some nice breeze on Monday! ;-)

And today has been quite overcast for us which is really nice!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Hope you don't get a cold form that drastic weather change, Mary! That's crazy!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you. You'll be seeing it a lot now that I don't have to dress up every day for school!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Tori. I do what I can ;)

I totally agree. It's amazing what a belt can do!

I would have thought that an owl belt would look ridiculous on anyone over the age of 20 but I love it! Now I want one.
