| Polka Dot Sweater- The Limited (sold out, similar from Forever 21) Black A-Line Skirt- Old Navy (Similar) Red Wedges (Similar from Urban Outfitters) |
I am longing for a beach vacation . Maybe it's because all the bloggers I read are either going on vacation or coming back from vacation! So jealous. Curtis says he doesn't think it's in the budget this year, but Sean wants to go to the beach so badly too. Every night he makes us play "beach"- we pretend to frolic in the ocean and snorkel to collect exotic things from the ocean floor- like books and combs. How can Curtis deny his sweet little boy his dream vacation?
Oddly, today's outfit feels very "wintery" to me. Maybe it's the color combination? My favorite part, hands down, is the brooch my BFF made from me from an old Girl Scout badge. I wasn't a Girl Scout, but the BFF was and I love the funky little touches. It's a "Model Citizen" badge and she layered it with my favorite colors. She also made the precious necklace and earrings I'm wearing. Check out her shop Polka Dot Pancake for all kinds of fun, funky jewelry!

Your friend is so creative! I adore that necklace, and that pin is so cute! How unique to use a girl scout patch.
This outfit does seem a little fall/winter-ish, but I like it. The color combo is classic and fun :) Love the cardigan!
Have a great weekend, and I hope you guys can make it to the beach this summer.
I love this outfit Katie! That skirt is SO pretty, and what a cute polka dotted sweater. I am dying for a vacation as well...maybe I need to start playing beach :) Have a great weekend!

I specifically save Poetry as the last project for my sophomores because I know it will be hard to get them to do anything else! We do it workshop style, so they have a packet of poem styles and we spend part of each day looking at each style in depth, one by one. Then they have work time, "publishing" time and we celebrate with a Poetry Party at the end. Students bring snacks and do a dramatic reading of one of their poems. Then it's an educational movie for the last few days.
Great minds must think alike because I'm wearing red pants and a black and white tunic today. If I can't BE motivated and energetic, at least I'll look like I am!
I love this outfit. Red looks so great on you. And I think everyone is in need for a break! Have a great weekend!

The brooch and necklace are so pretty, what a talented friend you have! I'm loving the fact that you guys play "beach", that's just so cute. Can I play too!? Love that polka dot cardi on you. Have a great weekend and happy mother's day! :)

That polka dot cardi is so cute, Katie! I love how you posed with the striped signs in the background, it's almost like pattern mixing :) Hope you guys can take a beach vacation!

Thank you, Sharon! Sean will be heartbroken if he doesn't get to go to the beach.. so I think he's wearing Curtis down ;)
Playing beach isn't as much fun as actually being there, but it's pretty close! Thank you so much for the weekend and Mother's Day wishes! You are too sweet :)
I am counting down the days! I know I need a break, and the kids do too. Thank you, Grace! I hope you have a great weekend too!
That is a great idea! I think I may try something similar to that next year. And it's a perfect education excuse to bring some food! Thanks for the suggestion :)
As far as clothes go- I definitely try to fake it on days I'm not making it!!
Thank you! I really love this jewelry!
I love that brooch. I wonder if I can manage to rip all my badges off my old girl scout uniform....and I wonder if my mom will be mad.

Playing beach is no replacement, but it's going to have to do for now, unfortunately :(
I love red with black and white polka dots! I'm also dying for a beach vacation. I grew up on the Gulf, so I always miss the sand in my toes this time of year. My guy and I are trying to figure out when/ where we can afford. Even if it's just a small trip to a New England beach, I'm determined to make it happen.
It is a classic combo, I think the sweater just weighed it down! It's that Girl Scout patch the cutest! I love it: ) Have a great weekend! And I'm still holding out for a meet-up in the mountains too ;)
Red, black, and white always looks great together! I am right along with the kids, longing for a vacay!!! Happy Teacher Appreciation week to you. It's great seeing more fashionable teachers in the bloggersphere. lol
I love the pop of red in this outfit. It's a great way to spice up black and white.

LOVE that brooch...and how sweet that she made it for you. Makes it extra special.
And I think you deserve the vacay...I'll cross my fingers for you :)
First time stopping by (came over from Tara's link-up!)

Whoever scheduled research lessons for the last 3 weeks of school was misguided and/or overly optimistic! The kids' brains are already on summer vacation .... I will be subbing for a friend the last week of school, and I already know it's going to be a challenge. :)
I love the polka dot design on that cardigan. The pin and necklace are fun, too. Black, white and red always make me think of Ian Falconer's "Olivia" books. :) Oh, and those red shoes ... you have convinced me that I need a pair of red shoes. Soon.
Sounds like you folks definitely need a beach getaway! The beaches of Hawaii are gorgeous, I'm told! ;)
Love your cardi...thanks so much for linking up!
New follower here--found you from Tara's linkup today! I'm also a high school English teacher (woot woot!) and totally understand how you feel about getting students to do ANYTHING these last few weeks of school. To make matters even worse, I teach seniors...talk about pulling teeth. They've had senioritis since August!
absolutely loving all the pop of red!

I ended the seniors with Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None (Ten Little Indians) and a senior scrapbook project. And my 7th graders' last project is to make a newspaper. All of their 'articles' are about their 7th grade year. I have a handy list of fun websites, so when they get restless typing things up, or if they finish early, they get to 'play around' and that helps too. All three of these projects are fun things for them to hang onto and they learn a lot of skills while doing it.
I figured that if I could teach 9th graders grammar during the last two weeks of school when I was serving as a short-term sub, I could do ANYTHING.
That attitude (and experience) has helped.
Well, really cute shoes help too. At least they give my students something to write about in their newspapers :)
Very cute outfit, the cardi is gorgeous!
Thank you, Natasha! I didn't think I'd get much wear out of it, but it's become a staple!
Thanks, TJ!
I definitely couldn't handle seniors! Glad to "meet" another blogging English teacher! So fun :) Good luck as we finish out the school year!
Thank you for hosting!
Carrie, I was the dummy that planned it! What was I thinking. I just hate them so much I kept putting it off and putting it off! Next year I think it will be the first thing I do!!
God, what I wouldn't give to visit a Hawaiian beach. I'm going to have to start doing A LOT of hinting!
So glad you stopped by! Your blog is awesome. I think we all need a vacation about now! I'm ready to start counting the hours ;)
Thank you! It's definitely a go-to color combo!
Thank you! I love finding other bloggers/teachers- so cool. Happy Teacher Appreciation to you :)
Did I know this about you? What part of the Gulf? We are about 5 hours from the Gulf, so it's a relatively easy trip, but we like to stay less crowded (aka more expensive places). I would be super interested to see your take on the differences between a Southern beach and a New England beach! Hope it's in both of our budgets!!
Of course your mom would be mad! I don't remember where she found the badges. I think her mom was a Scout leader (or whatever) and had a bunch of extra ones they found.
I love yor necklace!

That polka dot cardi is so cute!! And I love the red with it. There's just something about red, white and black that is so chic!
I can't wait for summer break! Love the detail on your necklace :)

Oh boy do I hear you--trying to teach 8th and 9th graders any French this time of year is insane! I love this whole look--the polka dots are so fun, as is that amazing, funky brooch! I hope you get your beach vacation soon!
