A Plea for More Weekend!

Oh, Monday, why do you torture us so? I know I  am supposed to be thankful that back during the Industrial Revolution someone decide that working 7 days a week was a load of crap and fought for our right to weekends (remember, English teacher, not history, so my recollection is coming from 10th grade social studies here!), but why, oh why, did he decide that our week should be divided into 5 days of work followed by two days of rest?! Why!?

Top- Lauren Conrad for Kohl's (no longer available- similar here)
Skirt- so old. I can't find anything comparable :(

I spend Saturday recouping from the previous work week and Sunday preparing for the upcoming work week, so there's not a lot of rest and relaxation going on. After I had Sean, I went back to work 4 days a week, and it was pretty magical. I worked Monday and Tuesday; I was off Wednesday, and then I worked Thursday and Friday. I worked a ten hour shift, so I still got my forty hours. I loved it. I purposely asked off on Wednesday, because I loved the idea of splitting my work week in half. Plus I didn't want to make my five-day a week co-workers angry by having a permanent three-day weekend.

So I propose we re-examine this current work-to-weekend ratio! Or at the very least require afternoon napping for all, not just the daycare crowd! Wanna vote for me for President? I think I've got a great platform. And a great skirt ;)

Ugh - agreed! This 5 day work week totally needs to be re-thought...2 days off is NOT enough, and how is the 5/2 ratio even fair? Anyway, love that skirt Katie - such a pretty pattern :)

cute skirt! i would love a siesta in the middle of the work day. i think working a few hours, going home for lunch and a nap for a few hours and then back to work for maybe 1 hour would be the perfect work day!

It's not fair! How do we fix this!? Thank you so much- I wish I could have found a similar skirt- this one is about too small for me- I've had it for five years, and I was MUCH smaller before having a baby!

Love that last picture. The skirt is so pretty on you, love the colors. I wish the weekends were longer too... and I love that the Industrial Revolution was mentioned, haha. :)

I love the photo of you high fiving Sean! I agree that 2 days off for the weekend is not enough but I can't complain too much because I only work 30 hours a week. (I do work 5 days a week though).

I would love a little mid-week break. My mom used to work a 45 hour week so she would have every other Monday off. I would love that. I'm not greedy...I only want a 4 day work week every other week.

we have had our bank holiday today- lots of people don't go to work (some sadly do which sucks) and i think it is wonderfully civilised! a 3 day weekend is the way forward - or as you said - nap time, a greatly under-rated activity! yay you and your magnificent ideas and skirts! x

Love the print and color of your skirt, as well as the lacy neckline on your top. :) Katie for president! Naps and shorter workweeks for all! :)

Thanks! It's Revlon Minted. I did a french manicure with mint tips over the weekend. Hope it lasts long enough to take pics!

It needs to be seriously considered. You know other countries are very pro-nap. I have a foreign exchange student who comes in after lunch every day (it's a free period class, not academic) and puts her head down and naps. She says that's what they do in China. Now that's smart!

So pretty! I just found your site via pinterest and I'm so glad I did. You've reminded me that I can still feel fabulous even though my darling children have changed my figure, haha. Thank you and I look forward to reading through the archives :)

I'm always in favor of a shorter work week! I've always said we should adopt the European model of a really long lunch break or siesta, or tea, or what have you.

Hahahaha I agree with you on this one! I wish the weekend was longer. Perhaps we should change the calendar so there is 8 days a week :)
