Graduation is a solemn ceremony, despite the instistance of air horns and wolf whistles, and the dress code is reflective of that. I remember at my own high school graduation spending the morning scrambling all over town looking for a pair of black dress shoes. How I got all the way to my senior year of high school without owning a pair boggles my mind now, but then I wasn't the fashionista I am now, so I will excuse it. For many students this is the most dressed up they've ever been, with the exception of prom, and it's often the first time they've ever worn "adult" clothes.
Even though we are all wearing big, shapeless, musty, and possibly unclean graduation robes, we are still expected to dress nicely. So I knew all the way back in April that I'd be depending on Kiyonna to have me looking right, and, as always, they did not disappoint. I paired my trusty favorite, the Paige Pencil Skirt, with their new Smitten Lace Top. As usual the clothing does not disappoint

So tonight I will be in my finery welcoming the class of 2012 into the real world. It's not always easy, it's not always pretty, but it should be always classy.

Lovely lace top!!
For whatever reason I get nervous for the graduate during ceremonies...especially once Pomp and Circumstance begins....The best graduations are the kindergarten graduations :)
Um - totally in love with that purple lace top! It looks gorgeous on you Katie! You will be lookin' mighty fine under those robes :)

You look lovely! The purple lace is amazing on you :) I think dressing up under a graduation robe is kinda like wearing matching underwear. Only you know whats going on under there but it gives you a certain confidence :)
You made me crack up with the mention of Miley Cyrus lyrics, so thank you for that:) Also you look fab, as per usual.
You are most welcome! ;)
So that totally made me laugh! And I'll probably think about that all night long!
Thank you, Sarah!
Why thank you! And should anyone see my bra, I will say you are my fashion inspiration!
My son will graduate from kindergarten next year, and I am so NOT ready for that at all. I need to just start playing Pomp and Circumstance 24-7 so I can desensitize myself to it!
I'm in love your lace top, it's so pretty, the color looks gorgeous on you! I remember my high school graduation. It was actually really boring. The highlight was our valedictorian didn't show up... yeah that happened! Have fun!

I am always amazed at the fact that people don't know how to dress for a graduation. People could take a few tips from you. I went to my boyfriend's graduation (Masters...not HS...haha) and I saw the clothes range from ripped jeans to prom dresses to glittery tub top dresses.

You are looking so hot in that purple lace top, Katie! Work it! Have a great time at the graduation!

Love that top!! The color is awesome. I always cry when I hear pomp and circumstance too! Also whenever I hear the classic wedding march song. Actually, I tear up at A LOT of things. I'm an American, living in Canada, with a Canadian daughter and the first time I heard her singing O'Canda I was a mess. lol For reals!
As far as dressing up for grad, nope didn't do it. I wore a sundress, Birkenstocks and sunglasses, as did a lot of other girls. I guess in Northern California it's a little different. ; ) We're pretty laid back.
Hope it all went well tonight! You were most likely the best dressed. : )
I still remember the beautiful dress I wore under my shapeless graduation robe. It was such a relief when I was finally able to take it off and display my pretty dress. I love the lace top. The color is spectacular!
Hahaha, I loved reading this! Your sense of humor is one of my favorite things about you & your blog :) You look darling, such a classy outfit, yet it doesn't scream "teacher" either. Can you believe I'll be teaching summer school this summer, and my very first day is this TUESDAY!? Ahh! I may be calling on you for moral support, my dear!

You look freakin' fantastic in that color! Love and miss you! -
You definitely look classy and perfect for a graduation ceremony. The purple lace top looks beautiful.
I am such a sucker for anything lace, so I am of course loving your top! Also, the color is stunning on you. with your skin tone and hair color!

That's crazy that your valedictorian didn't show! Our said we were the "bacon bits of the salad of life"- I'll never forget!
I love that you had to make sure and explain it was his Masters, not HS. That made me LOL :P
I had a lot of time to sit and study people at this graduation and we had the same combination of dressers- lots of tube tops and hoochie shorts- of course it WAS super hot!
You are cracking me up! I know scrummy means something good- reminds me of scrumdiddlyumptious bars and Willy Wonka- but we never use it here!
I struggle with geography too- did you every find Sri-Lanka? :)
I almost melted to death! It was so hot!!!!
Thanks, TJ, and it made me feel really old too! It is such an out of body experience!
You would have died! The choir had an arrangement of Pachelbel In Canon D (wedding song) and "Amazing Grace". It was spine-tingling!
Thank you, Bella! You would think in all these years the universe would have come up with something more flattering to wear at graduation ceremonies!
I am so excited for you! I know you are going to look amazing every day, and I will definitely be available for moral support!!
Taheri! I miss you :(
Thank you, Marie!
Thank you, Hannah! I am a sucker for lace too!
I love lace and I love purple, so this top is pretty much perfect to me.
You look gorgeous!
That's exactly how I felt too!
You are absolutely gorgeous in that purple - it really makes your hair and skin glow. :) It's always special to see kids take that big step!
It really is. I am always excited by the potential for greatness and the solemnity of the situation!
