I was so proud of those babies, wearing them for only the most special of occasions- graduation, weddings, funerals, and so on. Pearls were fancy; they were not for everyday wear. Now I don't even know if pearls are considered stylish. I hope they are considered classic or wardrobe staples at the very least. Anytime I wear them I feel just a tad bit more elegant.

Even if they are just my K-Mart pearls!

You look so lady-like and elegant :)
Kevin bought me a pearl necklace a few years ago for our anniversary, and I always feel a little fancier wearing it and definitely save it for special occasions. I also think a strand of pearls is really cute layered into an assortment of necklaces.
I think with the right outfit pearls can still look classy and elegant, I think the key is to only wear them for fancier occasions. Your outfit is the perfect example, they add just the right amount of fancy to what you are wearing, without distracting from the lovely dress xo
I think pearls are a classic piece and they're always in style! You look so chic and sophisticated in your LBD, Katie!

Pearls are definitely classic and timeless like the LBD of jewelry... I bet these will be a great item to wear all your life and pass down to someone special, and they have a cute story to boot:)
Aww, how sweet that he got these for you so long ago. I think pearls are definitely classic and timeless. You look so pretty and elegant!

Pearls will always be stylish. And a sweet gift from your husband should always be worn proudly.

I consider pearls to always be in style. They are so classic and feminine, and always add a girly touch to outfits. You look so chic in an LBD with that beautiful necklace.

pearls are so classic, and the reason you have them is so romantic x ps those shoes are gorgeous and i want them now also your dress is beautiful , great pics too all pouty and cute!
I love pearls! I have a double strand that was my grandmother's and my husband bought me a set of river pearls in greens and browns. I don't wear them often, but I do love them!
I also own a set of pearls; which was given to me in 1993 when my grandmother passed away. I was 18 at the time and didn't really like them, but I'm the "girliest" of all my female cousins, so they were given to me. Now I adore them. I don't even know if they're real, but I feel like a true lady when I wear them. Hmmm, maybe I should wear them next Sunday, I haven't worn them in a while. Love your look, Katie!

Yay for Curtis! Pearls are always in style, and they take any outfit to the next level. You look great in this simple sheath.
Pearls are a classic! Next you need some nice big diamond stud earrings, and you'll never, ever, need any other jewelry. Not that you shouldn't GET other jewelry, mind you, but you're always appropriate in those items! I don't necessarily reserve mine for special occasions either, pearls look good with everything (as do diamond stud earrings...just sayin'. ) Also-jewelry experts say you should wear your pearls all the time as the oil from your skin helps keep their lustre. I know old pearls that don't get worn often flake apart and have to be discarded, which is a sad shame considering how much work goes into obtaining them.
I wore some fake pearls the other night when I went to dinner with my fiance. I don't own real pearls. I also plan on wearing my fake pears for my wedding. I think they look lovely with my scalloped lace boudoir dress like yours.
How beautiful you look! And how sweet of him to give them to you.
I love pearls, be they kmart, walmart, cultured or natural. Did you know natural pearls are more rare than diamonds? It's why they were such a symbol of class and luxury. I fee like this outfit needs a Pop of color. I was going to suggest a red lip but since its summer, how about orange lips? Wet n wild has a not so scary orange-y red called persimmon. It's a little dry so add a balm. Or, maybe belt the dress with a neon skinny belt since neon is the IT of this summer. Just a suggestion! It is a beautifu outfit on it's own!
I think pearls are timeless, they'll always be elegant and classy! I think they look great!

My parents bought me pearls when I got married. And I hardly ever wear them :( I agree, they always make you feel a bit more elegant.
Great dress!
You look so classy! I love pearls. One of these days I will get myself some REAL ones.
Pearls are a classic - like your black dress and nude heels! A perfect combo. And ps. You inspired me to wear a belt with my dress and sweater for our family photos yesterday and I loved my outfit. Thanks!
You look so pretty in that LBD, Katie and of course, pearls can never go out of style! Classic, sophisticated and elegant- that's how I feel every time I put on my pearls!

I love your stories Katie! I think it's awesome that you still have them, and wear them! I was fortunate enough to be gifted my great grandmother's pearls from the 30's! They are on of my most prized possessions and I too only wear them for special occasions. Pearls are one of those things that I don't think ever go out of style and they are the epitome of elegance :)

But the story behind them is so incredible. They're priceless in sentimental value alone!
Your post completely touched my heart. I grew up poor too & thought the same way about pearls. Its awesome that your husband got you something so wonderful. I think pearls instantly elevate an outfit. They are timeless classic. You look so sophisticated in your pearls and chic black dress!
That is the sweetest thing ever! I adore pearls and I have them in several sizes and colors due to my obsession. I think they'll always be in style, and if you follow the wisdom of Ms. Hepburn (and honestly, who doesn't?), diamonds are tacky on anyone younger than 50 so pearls are the way to go! (Although, I don't know any girl at any age that would complain about diamonds!)
I agree! Glad they are forever stylish.
Audrey was a fashion genius! Love that quote and I agree- that's why I am so uncomfortable in my wedding ring! It just feels too grown up :)
Thank you so much. It's always nice to know someone else knows what you were going through growing up. Thank you!
Awww, thanks, Sarah. He's always been super sweet. And great at picking up hints!
That's an amazing gift you got. I bet they are a prized possession. My great-grandmother was a poor country girl. I bet she didn't have any jewelry. But I bet my grandmothers leaves me some great, tacky costume jewelry one day! ;)
That's exactly the way I feel too- super fancy!
Awww, tell me when the photos are up on your blog. I'd loved to see them!
Thank you, Trice. I was feeling pretty classy and demure. Definitely demure.
I actually got the pearl earrings I'm wearing in the post as a wedding gift from my aunt. Great wedding gifts apparently!
Thanks! Going to enter now!
I didn't know that, but if makes sense. Thanks for sharing- that's really cool. I definitely should have put some lips on ;) And I actually thought about the belt too!
Thanks, Jeanine!
Some of the fakes are so good you can't tell a difference, and you don't have to worry about ruining them! I bet it does look good with the scalloped boudoir dress. I'll do that next time I wear it!
Get this- I have on two different occasions lost diamond earrings in the shower. I have two holes and I used to always wear 1/4 carat studs in the second hole. I mean all the time, but like I said- I've twice lost a stud. I know the moral is take them out when showering, but I never even thought about them. I'll have to buy my own diamonds. I think the husband is done replacing those ;)
And I've always seen pearls like that, and I thought they were FAKE!I didn't know that- even more reason to wear mine!
Thank you, Lynne!
That's cool. I think I need to start incorporating mine into more outfits!
I definitely feel more ladylike with them on, so I get that (of course I also get the not wearing them). Who cares if they are real. Hell, I don't even know if mine are! Wear them!
That's so cool that you have a double strand of your grandmother's! And the green and brown ones are so pretty! I love river pearls!
I have been looking for nude pumps since last fall, and I think I finally have a winner!
Well, I trust you because you got the style thing going on! Thank you, Jenny!
It is really sweet :) Thank you, Xi-chia!
WOW! I never thought about the fact that I will eventually get to hand them down to someone and one day they will have my old pearls. That is so cool!!
Well, I tricked you! Chic and sophisticated? Ha! Thank you so much Sharon!
I would feel silly wearing them with jeans, so I think you are right- it's all about the occasion!
We have such sweet husband! I'll have to try layering my pearls! That would be cute.
What a sweet gift from your hubby! And definitely a piece you can where forever. You look very classy in that dress with your pearls. : )
You look gorgeous.
I love pearls, and I wear them with everything! They are a timeless piece and always elegant. IMHO :)
I adore pearls. They are elegant and timeless. And you are lovely! I just discovered this blog and I am pleasantly surprised at the content. You are gorgeous! (p.s. what sort of lipstick are you wearing? It's lovely!)
Thank you so much, Susanna! I think in these photos I am wearing Rose . Here's the link
