Here's what last night looked like at the house. We ate dinner at 5:30 (yes, we are like little old people!) and then rushed home to watch X-Files for six hours before bed. We are wild and crazy when Sean is spending the night with his grandparents. Luckily in this post I am not talking about last night- I am talking about Wednesday night!

Wednesday night Curtis and I got dressed up to attend the final dress rehearsal of Legally Blonde- The Musical at a local community theatre. Curtis's employer is a big sponsor of the theatre, so they have been hosting parties the night before opening night for certain plays. It's s great opportunity to mingle with other people in the city and see a top rate show. We saw "Hairspray" last year and I had tears by the time it ended, and while there were no tears Wednesday night, my stomach did hurt from laughing!
I love live theatre. There is very little in this world more exciting than seeing people pour out their hearts and souls while on stage in front of hundreds of people. It is truly magical. I have had the pleasure of being in a few plays (Last year at the school where I teach, they allowed teachers to try out for the big plays. I was Mrs.Webber in Our Town and an Oz beautician and chorus member in The Wizard of Oz). I was blown away by the amount of hard work- literal blood, sweat, and tears- that goes into staging a performance. It was the most exhilarating, exhausting and amazing experience of my life. I look forward to eventual getting on the stage again.
But in the meantime, I love plays and musicals. So much fun! I wore my white Dorothy Perkins dress again, pairing it this time with a turquoise cardigan and a lovely green belt. Everything was awesome except for these old peep toe heels. Does anyone else have trouble with peep toes KILLING your feet? I was in so much pain I walked barefoot back to the car. But it was worth it!

Ok, that cartoon of you is SO cute! She is so talented, and her post was so sweet :)
I love this white dress on you, and it sucks that those peep toes hurt your feet because they are gorgeous. I have trouble with some of my heels pinching my toes and have definitely walked back to the car barefoot a few times ;)
Happy Friday!
You look SO pretty, love that dress on you! Ok, BFF... I LOVE musicals. Like, LOVE them. But my husband doesn't. So I don't really get to see them that often. My favorite? Wicked. I've seen it a few times and I'm just dying to go back.
xo, Yi-chia
LOVELOVELOVE this color. It's so pretty on you -- very complementary.

The cartoon of you is too cute!
I love the turquoise and white together, it's just gorgeous! I love seeing plays/musicals on Broadway but it gets so expensive. Have a great weekend, Katie!

You look amazing! Totally chic & beautiful :)

Oh, that cartoon is just ADORABLE!
You look sooo great in this. Your hair and hourglass figure are both shown to full advantage.
The play sounds so fun. There's nothing like live theatre, is there?
PS I like to eat really early like that too! Maybe it has something to do with being a teacher?
You look sooooooooo retro glam, totally nailed the Marilyn Monroe thing (again, haha). I just adore dresses from Dorothy Perkins...someday I'm saving up to buy one! Pretty in blue too, I'm always amazed by how gorgeous colours look w your skin and hair. Sounds like a lovely time...I'm going to see Roman Holiday as a musical at a local theatre next weekend!

I love this entire get up Katie. You look perfect and you always have the best poses/facial expressions. I need a lesson. Come teach me? Ha! I can not wear most peep toes. They just don't work for me usually!

That shade of blue is gorgeous on you, Katie! Love those heels too! Thanks a bunch for stopping by and commenting!

That drawing of you is too cute. I'm so excited for my DP dress to arrive. I'd ordered two, but I guess one of them sold out while it was in my cart. I really need more theater in my life. I was a theatre minor in college, but I hardly ever see shows now.
thanks for the follow dear, following you back! love this look and live theater is so much fun! don't worry i am like an old person at heart too :D

Oh my WORD that cartoon is adorable! I love it! If I where you I'd get a copy to frame, then make stationary out of it! lol
I actually did Legally Blonde in Gadsden back in February! I was Enid Hoopes (I did the peace corp overseas.... okay I won't, but I could, I'm literally braking out into song right now!) and it was probably one of my favorite roles to date! I now want to go check out their production just to see how I stack up to their Enid! lol (Yes, I am enclosing my headshot from the show, don't judge!)
You look fantastic as always! I adore that dress! And I'm sorry your feet were killing you, but those shoes are the first things I noticed in the post! I love a good nude heel!
You look beautiful (in real life and as a cartoon)!
I am blessed to live a city with multiple community theaters, colleges, and we get Broadway touring shows. We try to go to at least 2 shows per year. Plus, I majored in Dance in college so I had lots of theater friends and went to tons of plays.
If you ever get the chance to see "A Year With Frog and Toad," do it! And take Sean. We took our son to see it when he was 4 and it was fantastic! A musical adaptation of Arnold Lobel's Frog & Toad books :)
I just love Elena's illustration of you! She is super talented! You look gorgeous in these colors! I've seen several Dorothy Perkins dresses that I wanted to order but I'm so hesitant because I can't try them on.

ohh you look great in white and turquoise, the colors go together so well!
ha, the mister's family loves x-files. too funny.
and i just have to say that this color blue looks absolutely perfect on you!

I want this dress!!! You look stunning! Is Dorothy Perkin's size pretty accurate? I'm nervous to order. And your illustration is adorable. I think it reflects your sassiness. Hopefully she'll feature me in one of her future posts... and if you are feeling up to it, put in a good word for me! hehehe. OK... have a great weekend!
Not only do I love this outfit (turquoise and white are always lovely) but I am also a huge musical theater junkie. There is truly something magical about a live performance!

Yay! I agree 100%! Musicals are SO much fun!
The sizing is very accurate for me. I know my measurements and use those when ordering. I was so excited about the illustration. It was a total surprise! Be sure to follow her blog and let her know you are interested!
Thank you, TJ! We look forward to watching X-Files every night. It's our little date after Sean falls asleep!
Thank you, Julie! I love the two together- so summery!
She really is! And I was so excited :)
I think the DP dresses are really true to size and their size charts are accurate. I used my measurements to determine my size. BUt it was still a big chance to just order it because returns would be a pain in the butt!
Sounds very similar to Birmingham. We have a great Children's Theatre here, so I will have to check and see what they are showing. I know Sean would love it. He watched Wizard of Oz three times when I was in it. And yelled for me and waved and blew kisses every time I was on stage! :)
I thought you played Enid, so I was thinking about you. It was totally fun. I wish the high school would do it- tons of girl parts, really cute. I mean they'd have to cut some stuff.
I really want to get into community theatre... will people think I'm crazy?
Also, I am ALWAYS searching for the perfect nude pump. This is my 4th pair! What size shoe do you wear? I have a pair of Steve Madden cone heel patent leather nude pumps which are AMAZING but too small!
I think when I started putting my son to bed at 8, it's like that turned into my bedtime too!!
Glad we are keeping up with each other :)
I hate when things sell out while it's in your cart- always so sad!
It's tough to get to shows because they are so damn expensive. I really think that's prohibitive. I know when my school does an expensive play, people don't come. Isn't it better to charge $5 and sell out, than charge $15 and have 200 empty seats? It just doesn't make good sense.
Thank you Juneli! I am on a mission to find the perfect nude pump, but sadly these babies are not the ones!
I watched LOTS of America's Next Top Model. Crazy Tyra taught me everything I know ;)
Maybe I am Marilyn reincarnate? Nah not really, but that would be awesome! DP is having a huge sale right now, the problem is shipping can be so expensive and if you get cheap shipping it takes FOREVER!
I would love to see Roman Holiday. That would be so fun :)
I definitely think being a teacher has something to do with the early eating. We never eat past 6:00 PM! And yes, live theatre is a creature all on its own. A magical creature, like a unicorn!
Thank you, Asher!
Our Broadway productions down here are so damn expensive wwe can rarely go to these. I can't imagine actual NYC prices! I wish they would make things more affordable so ordinary folks could go!
Thank you!
Since you're practically BFF, I'm gonna let you in on a Wicked secret. You may already know this and you may not be able to use it for a couple of years, but.... An hour and a half before show time (every night of the performance, including travelling productions) they hold a lottery. They draw like 20 or 25 names and you can get two tickets for $10 a piece. And the seats are rocking! I sat sixth row one year and fourth row this year when it came to town. So So So awesome!
It was so cool! I was super exciting :)
Some of my peep toes literally cut into my feet, like making and then busting the blisters all on their own. It's horrendous!
I start getting nervous if I'm not at least settling in by 9! Gotta get my beauty rest ;)
You look gorgeous as usual! And i really love that bag :)
What a pretty outfit, the green belt makes this look that much more fun. I'm with you, I love musical theater (actually all theater). If I could sing at all I would have done theater in high school. You look beautiful!
Thanks for the follow, I'm following you officially now! :D
Hahaha, last year, hubby & I went through a phase when we re-watched the X-Files. It lost some steam after awhile, so we still have the last couple of seasons to finish. Maybe we'll start up again!
Also, LOVE the outfit. The color combo is summery perfection <3

Hannah

Oh my gosh, I have so much trouble with peep toes too! My feet always slide forward and then my toes get all cut up and smashed in the peep window, so not cool. Maybe I just need to buy a smaller size?
Also your illustration is beautiful! It totally shows all your moxie.
Katie, thank you for swinging by my blog and commenting, and I'm so glad I found you in return! Love your fashion and humor! This cream and turquoise combo is so pretty. And I hear you on the peep toes - mine toes end up oozing out the front in the most painful way possible. :-S Happy new follower here. :)
Ooo, this is a great outfit Katie - the color, cut, style...everything looks fabulous!
You are so cute - and you totally killed it on the cartoon inspiration! (I totally was Jessica Rabbit last year for Halloween... made the bf be Roger and everything!)
Love the skinny belt and the pops of teal. And yes, peep toe shoes do not agree with my feet either!
xx
Here&Now
It is SUCH a fun show to do! Very girl driven and empowering! There are several things they'd have to cut, but over all, it's a clean show!
I'm an 8! I used to be a 7 1/2 but an 8 felt so good I started buying 8.5s! (yeah, I just steel magnolia-d this post!)
and NO! No one will think you are crazy! I do community theater. I've got 2 shows coming up for the rest of the year! It's so fun. It takes a lot of time, but to me it's worth it! You could find one that could cast Sean too and get his toes a little wet in the world of theater! It's a mega confidence booster and it really helps with any kind of shyness and anxiety and really promotes great speech habits! Wonderful for adults and children a like! My theater group is doing Music Man and they open at the end of the month! You should take a family trip to Gadsden and check the show out! I've heard it's fantastic!
What an awesome idea for Halloween costumes! I love it!
Thank you, Mary Ann! I always feel fabulous in this dress!
Thank you, thank you! You are my new favorite! And I am relieved to hear I'm not the only person who has trouble with peep toes.
Maybe a smaller size is the solution? I don't know. I do know mine get nasty cut up too. So painful.
And thank you. I think Elena's illustration is exactly the way I imagine myself. So that was pretty awesome :)
X-files will go through spurts where there are like 6 kick ass episodes in a row, and then 6 suck ass episodes in a row. We just started season 2 and it's awesome so far!
I was too scared in high school to try out for any plays, but now I wish I could go back and do it! It would have been so much fun :)
So glad we are following each other now :)
It's a camera bag, you know? I begged for it for Mother's Day and I love it so so much!
You make an adorable cartoon! Also, I am seriously in LOVE with the colors. The green and the cardigan on the white canvass = perfection. Finally, peep toe shoes and I are generally not good friends. I think my toes are too rebellious because the second one in never plays nice and always looks like a weirdo.
I love the cartoon!!! You would TOTALLY give Jessica Rabbit a run for her money.
You look so wonderful in this outfit! I how the colors pop on you! Very sophisticated! You make me want a white dress like NOW!!! :)
I soo love Elena's illustration of you Katie! And you're looking so lovely for the theatre!
