Goldmine

Cardigan- JC Penny's
T-shirt- Old Navy (lasy year)
Denim pencil skirt- Old Navy
Wedges- Kohl's

Okay, I am opening up with a question for you. When is the last time you went in a JC Penny's? If you just scoffed at the very idea, then you are missing out big time! You know that coveted mustard cardigan everyone is looking for? Yeah, like that one in my photograph. Well, I got mine at JC Penny's for $20! Can you believe it?!

I didn't do a great job photographing it but there is a very cute button detail on the cuff and the quality is really nice. This is not some sponsored post or affiliate link, just my true excitement in sharing a great deal with you. Too often we stick our noses up at the idea of a fuddy-duddy department store, but they can be a goldmine for classic pieces. Nearly everything I looked at was $20 or under. Take a look at the website if you don't believe me- colored pencil skirts, cardigans, pull-over sweaters. I am about to do a little mini-shopping spree myself (I mean it is my birthday month!)

So share with us! What unlikely store is a favorite of yours?

An owl and mustard?! I'm in love! You look so cute. I had a friend recently telling me about how she'd went into a JC Penney and it was amazing. She got so many cute items! I'll need to check it out for myself soon.

Good to be back here commenting again! :)

I don't think I've been in a JC Penney in 15 years. I guess I should give them a shot. That owl shirt is fantastic. I have a small collection of owl-themed clothing.

Bummed there aren't any transit- accessible JCPs in Boston. I used to go there all the time for basics. For whatever eason I decided that mustard is going to be the color I experiment with this fall/ winter. I've already purchased a mustard pencil skirt, mustard striped shirt and mustard shoes, but obviously I need a mustard cardigan!

The owl tee is SO cute! I stepped in a JCP a few months ago for the first time in years to buy a scarf and I too was amazed. There were so many things I wanted to buy and the prices were great!

Love your owl tee! I actually love department stores. Macys is always great for me. They have some fantastic brands and there is almost always a sale going on. :)

I feel like JCP's is on the up and up. They have great women's clothing in their adds right now! I was there a few months ago. I ended up returning all but 1 thing I bought, but they still had cute stuff!

I love you in mustard! I will have the check them out. My brother's girlfriend and I were in there last week and she found oddles of stuff. I wasn't looking that hard so I didn't find much but I may have to style steal that cardigan! lol I have been meaning to check out Sears too, as the Kardashian Kurves collection is in and Cosmo magazine did a collection for them too.

Love the cuff button detail and the price. :) I wish we had a Penney's here!
An unlikely store that has become a favorite is Sears - I like the FCUK line they carry. Guess I'll have to find a new unlikely store to love when Sears closes down!

I went into penny's last weekend for curtains (I was told they have a great selection...and they do) anyway, I was amazed at the clothing selection. Very cute pieces and super amazing prices.

I go to JCP frequently because my stylist works at the salon. Plus, it provides me easy access to Sephora! I often find great jewelry at JCP, but haven't looked at their plus-size section in a while. I love this outfit!

Love it! It is simply chic!

I'm loving your animal trend lately :) I have to say JC Penny & Sears have been stepping up their game. Also, have you been in Kmart lately? Sophia Vegara's collection is gorgeous too!

Love the outfit. I just picked up a pair of ANA jeans from JcPenney last week on clearance for $1.00..They are a perfect dark wash trouser jean, which make them perfect for casual Friday.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Absolutely! And $1- um, awesome! You cannot do better than that- unless JCP had just given them to you. I have a couple of pair of ANA jeans and I love them!

Thank you!

I just happened upon this shirt one time in Old Navy and I never saw it again- not in store, not online, not in real life- it's like it doesn't really exist. One of my favorite tees ever!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Definitely! You caught me!

Thank you, Kelley! I know right? I couldn't believe it myself ;)

I am addicted to birds... it's pretty bad ;)
Oh, I love K-Mart- they definitely have some cute (and super affordable) pieces !

Thank you :)

I was excited to see that this JCP has just gotten a Sephora- so that is extra awesome. It's way closer than the nearest Sephora!

Sears has always been a secret favorite- my husband worked there all through college when we were dating, so I took full advantage of his discount!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I am diggin' mustard too. Is there such thing as too much?

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you so much, Emily!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

See above for my love of Sears! I'm with you there. I just was floored by how cheap the clothes were!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I'll definitely go back- great selection online too!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

We only have one Macy's remaining here locally, and I rarely even think about it- or department stores in general. But I know better now! Might have to head that way tomorrow ;)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

:) I will definitely be going back!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I really want some mustard pants (but not Old Navy's Rockstar)- I've got the same skirt, the cardi and a pair of shoes- I don't want to go into mustard overload! Is that possible?

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

It's so awesome!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I am a little addicted :) several owl-themed jewelry pieces, this top, and an owl tattoo. I don't even know where the obsession came from!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Welcome back! And you definitely need to check out JCP- I think you'd be very pleasantly surprised!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thanks Annie! It's one of my favorites!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Why are they keeping this a secret from everyone!?!?!

I do love JCPenny. I have a teal pencil skirt from there that is a color that I love! And they've had a berry colored one there that I've had to resist getting.

Ruth said...

I love JCP! I bet close to half of my wardrobe is from there. I have found a lot of pieces that work well for me there, and they are reasonable. My only disappointment is that my local store remodeled in the past year and they moved the plus section upstairs, i'm not sure its quite as big, and the dressing rooms are not as nice as they used to be.

I. LOVE. JCP. The hubs and I get a lot of our normal, everyday clothes from JCP. I know people think it's kind of lame but most of the time when I wear clothes from there and Kohl's, I get the best compliments on my outfits. I think it's because it's a secret that they're awesome. (Shhhh...)

I love JCPenney. I got a great pair of open toe pewter flats from there this past summer and a green enamel bracelet. I also like get deals on Land's End Canvas from Sears, which was where I got my yellow cardigan 2 years ago.

JCP has come a long way and actually have a few things that I've got my eye on! :)

Oh my goodness, and here I was asking you where I could get a mustard cardi! This one is gorgeous! Alas, no JC Penneys here but perhaps I can bother the Daughter and ask her to get me one. I hope they still have them! :)
