Hair's the Thing

I got my hair cut and colored over a week ago, and finally managed to get some good photos to show you! I have such a love/hate relationship with my hair. I love it when I'm having a good hair day, but I hate washing it and styling it. And when I say hate, I mean hate. I've already discussed this on the blog, but it's been a while. My hair is so coarse and dry that I only wash it twice a week. And that's a good thing because it is seriously so thick that it takes forever to dry.

Skirt and boots- Old Navy (no longer on-line, but in stores!)
Sweater- Target (no longer on-line)
Owl necklace- Cato's (stores only, no website)
Scarf- gift from BFF

I know lots of women say they have coarse, thick hair, and I'm not discounting them, but as far as I can tell from over thirty years of hair cuts and stylists, my hair is like abnormally thick. Like three people's worth of the hair on top of my head. It's ridiculous. I've been growing it long for over five years now, and there's not a morning that goes by that I don't fantasize about cutting it all off.

I'm no stranger to short hair and I have also discussed that on the blog as well. I used to take photos of Halle Berry's signature pixie cut into the salon and come out with a super short cut. I love the ease of short hair. It truly is wash and go. But I also love long, curly hair. It's quite a conundrum. I decided I wanted to cut some hair. My BFF and hair stylist extraordinaire talked me down from a full chop and she ended up cutting off four inches, giving me tons of layers, and some kick-ass ombre coloring.

Kick ass Ombre ;)

I felt like a totally new person- super fashionable and spunky, and NO ONE noticed. I mean you ladies did, but no one in real life said anything about it. It was so funny. Hair is so important, and here I thought I was doing something super drastic, and it was completely unnoticed. Gotta love that.

I HATE when people don't notice or say anything about drastic changes to the hair. What's worse though is when people make comments like "Ohhh... well, do YOU like it?!" (That's what all my coworkers said when I chopped 7 inches off my hair 4 years ago). I love it so much, and I know I told you that I thought your hair had been looking awesome. It seriously looks the best it has on the blog, I love love the layering and the ombre color looks awesome! So fun :)

I did notice, but in the busyness of this past weekend, I did not take time to say... It does look great. I, for one, like you in super short hair. I thought I had thick hair as a young woman, but it is nothing compared to yours. Between you and Curtis, it is no wonder Sean's hair is as thick as it is! Cudos to Callie for the cut and color!
I had my hair cut last week and my husband did not notice at all!

I want to feel bad for you but your hair is far too pretty, lol! And I love the ombre! FUN!

How could they not notice that awesome ombre? It's gorgeous!

I LOVE your new hair. It's soo cute. I hate when people don't notice after you get your hair done, granted I don't think I've done anything drastic before, but when I do, I'd want people to say something!

I love the ombre, it came out great! I wish I could just wash my hair 2x a week. I have to do it everyday or else it is so oily. I feel like a slave to my hair too!

Lovin' the new cut and color! I did notice last week that it looked shorter and your layers looked great. And I know how you feel about no one noticing your "big change". May of last year I chopped off about 6" of hair, it was to my jawline. It was amazing how many people didn't say anything. It kind of made me feel like they didn't like it so they just said nothing! Oh well. Your hair looks awesome, so I know that's not the case with you. I think it's because you dress soo cute they're distracted by the outfit. =) Have a great week!

Your hair looks gorgeous - the layers and ombre are lovely.
I have that same scarf, and love that it has multiple animal prints. I have never worn it with a necklace, but now I'll have to try it out ... :)

I haven't seen a side shot of "the hair" yet but this one, with the ombre all punchy and gorgey is freak-a-leakin' kick booty. YOU GO, GLEN COCO.

I'm lucky enough to have straight hair that is really was and go, but I'm super picky about who is allowed to cut it. I absolutely love the ombre color It has spunk and personality, but not so much that you're going to freak out the parents of your students:)

I think your hair is adorable! I love the color you added! I have the opposite problem, my hair is thin and SUPER greasy! I have to wash it at least once a day or dry shampoo the crud out of it :/

I envy you. It takes a long time to find a trusted hair stylist, so I totally understand! Thank you so much!

I agree! I was shocked when I saw the photo! All I can see are the really subtle front pieces. I was all, "WHAT!?!?" I pretty much love it.

I know people always want what they don't have and all that jazz, but good grief sometimes the bad of thick hair outweighs the good, you know!

It's a great fall scarf. My BFF got it for me for Christmas last year. I love the pattern as well :)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Yes, I agree with you, they are distracted by the outfits. I think it looks pretty similar from the front, and most people see my face all day, so I forgive them for not noticing!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Amy! Did I tell you I was following you now? Well, I am!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Isn't it crazy?! The grass is always greener, you know? I hate washing my hair, so if it was thin I would complain about having to wash it. You can't win!

I am the world's WORST about noticing Curtis's haircuts- I mean sometimes it takes me days to realize, so I don't get offended if no one notices ;)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thanks, Mary! Maybe they are blinded by my beautiful face? ;)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

HAHA :D Thanks, Crystal. I wouldn't feel bad for me either!!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I am still tempted to get the super short, though I feel it may be too matronly now at my "age". Sean's definitely got a headful of hour!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

You definitely noticed!! I was like, "Wow! She's talking about my hair looking good and I haven't even mentioned I cut it." You are a good friend. I need to see a pic of long haired Megan! I love your hair right now, so I can't imagine it super long!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I sure hope so. My school is really strict on "unnatural" hair color and I'm pretty sure I am rocking that! ;)

Well I notice your awesome kick ass hair and I love it!!

I love the color. I wish I had curls! You are so lucky. I have thin, fine blond hair. I would love some oomph!

Ombre hair! I wish I had your guts and your bff-slash-hair-stylist.

I had short hair (under the ears' length) last year after keeping it long for over a decade and regretted it the minute I looked at myself in the mirror. My hair's thick too, like two people's amount of hair in one head and short hair made me look poofier (for lack of a better word). Now it's long again and I'm keeping it for as long as I can. :)

i dont normally like the ombre coloring (to me, it usually looks like someone let their roots grow out) but yours looks FABULOUS -- very bad-ass!

i love your owl pendant!!! I have been contemplating owl jewelry for a while. I have a question thought: how would you mix floral patterns? or would you not even dare?

vogue_or_bust said...

Ah Katie I love it!!! And how could no one notice?! It's such a significant update haha, people are dumb. It looks amazingly fresh and the ombré is fabulous. And if it makes you feel any better, I have obscenely fine hair, it's ridiculous. I'd kill to have thick hair!

How could they not notice? Your hair looks great! I have had short hair too, but it is so expensive to maintain, but you are right it is way easier!!! I've been thinking about doing the ombré color with my hair!

The outfit so cute! I am still on the hunt for boots that fit me. And the hair is great! I really feel like I need to change mine up, but I get so nervous doing anything different with it. Maybe I should just do some fun color first as I grow it out some more....Anyway, stay spunky!! :-)
