I was feeling a little stalker-ish and uninspired the other night so I started rooting through the archives of the lovely Megan of Feathers and Freckles. Besides being reminded of how friggin' funny she is, I also found a bunch of cute fall outfit ideas. I really loved her bird-watching outfit from last fall, so I decided to recreate it. I mean I didn't totally rip her off, though literally I could have ( I have a similar skirt and similar boots), and when I got to work I was feeling pretty darn snazzy.

| Top and Skirt and Boots- Old Navy Apple Necklace- Maurice's Owl Belt- Cato's |
ALL DAY I got commits like "Oh, it must be redneck day" and "Is this your cowgirl outfit?" and "You are mighty country today". So what is cute and scholarly in Megan-world is countrified and hick in Katie-world. Go figure. Let me clarify- I have no problem with country or cowgirl. I'm still looking for the prefect pair of cowboy boots, no hating here. I just find it interesting how style conception differs from region to region.
My dear friend, and talented photographer, Brandy of Bombard Studios met me after school for a mini-photo session. If you are a local reader and looking for someone full of energy and talent for fall or winter or any occasion photography, you should definitely check out Brandy's Bombard Studios Facebook page or her website. She is offering 25% off weekday photo sessions during the months of November and December as a part of Bombard Studios "Home for the Holidays" sale.
IN the meantime I will continue practicing my "Yee-Haw"!

So cute!
Boots from ON? I'm jealous of your shapely calves. :) Mine (newly purchased) are Torrid to accommodate my muscly legs.
I think it might actually be the jean skirt that pushes it over into "cowgirl" range for me. The cord skirt seems more academia and the jeans remind me of Wranglers. Maybe that's the difference? Either way, both outfits are super cute and I would probably wear both stylings.

I love this it's a little bit country, but the small details make it so fun. There's something about that particular plaid that reminds me of Christmas, so I'd call this outfit Southern Christmas chic. Is it too early to listen to country versions of Xmas songs?
You are the cutest cowgirl ever! Love this whole outfit, especially those boots!

I agree with Laurel Walker that the denim skirt is what makes is country (versus Megan's academic corduroy). Cute either way! Hmm, maybe I need a plaid shirt. :)
Is the title of this post supposed to make me think of Beck's "Loser"? Because it soooo does.
I friggin' love this. I need that top and I need some boots, dang nabbit! But I think I may try to use the skirt and plaid shirt I do have to do something similar. You look great, and while I can see where people might call it a countrified outfit, that wasn't what came to my mind initially.
You look great! I am currently on the hunt for a nice plaid shirt!
Im always looking for a great pair of cowboy boots as well...everytime I find them theyre a size7 smh! Oh well, you look great! I love your boots :)

let me say, from the daughter of an actual Cowboy... this isn't super western in my opinion. It's a bit country with the flannel and denim, but I would not say you look like a hick (I would know) :D I think you're pretty adorable no matter how people label you. I was hesitant to get back into the plaid/flannel look because it has such negative connotations here in LA. Not severely negative, but all the obnoxious hipsters (the one's who think they are defying social norms), all wear it. But I decided to pick up a few in spite of them. I can't let a few wannabe rebellious 20 year old's get in the way of my fashion ;)

I love outfits with flannel. You look great.

Loving the cowgirl look! Living in Kansas, you can see a lot of the trashy version but not you. This is great! Beautiful!

Love plaid & denim together! Your apple necklace is darling!
Thanks so much, Terry! You are awesome :)
Thank you! I love anything apple- so cliched for a teacher, but I can't resist!
Thank you, Tasha :)
Well, down here we get plenty of the same ;) Thank you, Crystal!
It's really growing on me! Thank you, Kristian!
1. You are awesome
2. Me too!
It's so funny because in the South plaid is definitely country, not hipster AT ALL. I love how different fashion is from region to region.
Size 7- whatever! Who's feet are that little?
Old Navy's got a lot of great choices!
Thanks, Hailey! I know you are frustrated with the boot situation :(
Ha! I was just about to tell you Kid Rock, but now I am singing "Loser". I'm going to try this again with my corduroy skirt!
Ha! Thank you :)
Thanks, Rebecca! I guess I need to embrace my country roots!
Nope. Now I really feel like I need to download some Garth Brooks or something ;)
I have got to find some real cowboy boots!
Yeah, I want tall ones, not the 12 inch or whatever. It's super annoying- maybe we need to be looking at men's boots instead?
I'm definitely going to wear my corduroy skirt next time. I didn't want to totally copy Megan, but I think I need too!
I was surprised because my students DEFINITELY know rednecks!!I like the idea of a blazer with it!
Thank you, Savannah!
You're too sweet, Katie... and I love your version of the look! Plaid is the best :)
Uhhh NOT country at all! Just cute as heck. That's what happens when you are around people with no sense of style. And that's also why you've gotta love blogging!
