Like an Elephant

They say an elephant never forgets. I'm a lot like an elephant. I don't forget easily (and I'm even worse about forgiving, but that's another post altogether!). Yesterday in the car, Curtis and I were trying to figure out what to eat for dinner. I got a little exasperated- I blame low blood sugar from hunger, but he may just blame general meanness! I was immediately reminded of the first real "fight" we had as a dating couple. It was the same situation- riding in the car on a Friday night; every place crowded and covered up, and me grumping because I was hungry.

Leggings and V- Neck Sweater- Eloquii

ASOS Elephant Print Button-Up- c/o Gwynnie Bee

So apparently, I never forget- or change! Those are great traits to have, right?! I have other traits in common with the majestic elephant as well (hey, no fat jokes allowed!)- I have a strong sense of loyalty and family, for example.  I show a great range of emotion, as does the elephant- "They display envy, jealousy, throw tantrums and are fiercely competitive, and they can develop hang-ups which are reflected in behaviour" (Sheldrick Wildlife Trust). So apparently elephants also never forgive!

Elephants are also incredibly thick-skinned- like literally. I'm working on the figurative side of that. Sometimes I do really well, but it's always a work in progress. I am actually much more sensitive than many people believe. My feelings get hurt incredibly easy, but I rarely let people know it. Instead I bottle it up or become incredibly defensive. Maybe I still have a ways to go...

Omg, did I just write that or did you? Cause I'm exactly the same way and I always tell people I'm like an elephant (fat jokes allowed this time).

And I'm super in love with your shirt. So cute!:)

My Mom is obsessed with elephants, so now I will have to be buying her that top. Thanks Katie....JK! I also do not forget easily. (How do I remember where I bought tops from 9 years ago?) OR forgive easily lol. Maybe I should learn to let go?
PS-Elephants also know how to paint with their trunks. Check it out on youtube, it always makes me smile!

What a cute outfit! I absolutely LOVE that elephant top. They are one of my favorite animals :) (Behind birds of course). It's funny, I'm really good at remembering little details and things that don't matter, but when it comes to remembering where I put my keys, or what I studied before a test, I'm a complete blank!

That elephant print is so cute and I love how you layered it with the sweater. I get cranky too when I'm hungry!

I like to say that I have a memory like an elephant, especially when it comes to reminding my husband of the things he said he was going to do, ha. But like you, I totally get grumpy when I'm hungry. Whenever I'm in a mood, my husband's first response is "you're acting like you're hungry". Thanks darling!

I love your elephants top, so cute!

I get that way too when I am hungry, its like I become another person. I definitely think you are very thick skinned, and lots of us readers admire that about you. You are not afraid to be who you are, no matter what other people think. Congrats on that! BTW, love the elephant top... just too adorable.

You look super cute! Elephants are such amazing creatures.
I am still working on the forgiving and thick-skinned thing. I mostly have a really hard time with the forgiving, especially when the other person doesn't say sorry or admit they were wrong. Oprah once said, "Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could have been any different." When I heard that, it helped me start to change my view of forgiving and letting go.
So maybe that quote can help you too. :-)

I really love that top. Next to giraffes, I think elephants are my favorite "zoo" animal.

Also, I too get super grouchy when I'm hungry. My boyfriend doesn't understand either :(

I don't know what it is about this look, but I absolutely love it! Something about that black and white palette with the brown boots...

You are so pretty! And the "technical" term for your condition is Hangry - angry because you're hungry. It happens to me all the time. :)

Ha ha, I definitely get angry when I'm hungry!! Also, I have the worst memory EXCEPT for when someone has hurt my feelings or embarrassed me...THAT I never forget. Your outfit is adorable and that top is just so cute!

I think this was the first time in my life that I ever layered a shirt under a sweater! I've been missing out!

Me too. My alma mater has an elephant for a mascot, so, it's kinda required to love them, I think! Luckily I think they are awesome anyway!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Kristian. I agree- they are so cool to watch and read about!

Luckily they know us well! ;)

Awww, thank you!

I'm not a fan of the leggings. They are VERY stretchy and cut large. Definitely not worth $37. I got mine when they were having a buy a pair of pants, get a sweater free. They were the cheapest pants, so I pants them and an 80 dollar sweater for $37. I wouldn't buy them again though.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thanks, Sharon. That's the first time, I had ever layered shirts like that. I've been missing out.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Good to know, good to know... ;) And I am the same exact way. I lose my keys like once a week, and I NEVER remember meetings!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

If you do buy the top- size down; it's cut big! I've seen the elephants painting- so cool!

Yay! A kindred spirit!
