Show and Tell

I can't believe there was a time when I seriously considered never again wearing skinny jeans! Was I temporarily insane? I received an email yesterday asking about my skinny jeans in a recent post, so I thought I might just wax poetic about how much I love mine in today's post.

All of my skinny jeans are from Old Navy. I love their Rockstar Super Skinny denim. I hear mixed reviews all the time, but I've never had any trouble with sizing (I mean they are "super skinny". Set aside vanity and size up if you need to!). Earlier in the fall Old Navy had the Rockstars on sale from $20-29 and I stocked up!

Old Navy- Rockstar Super Skinny

I think most women have gotten over the fear of wearing skinny jeans, especially curvier gals like myself. This cut, in my "expert" opinion, can universally flattering, if sized correctly. I also think that any well-rounded closets would benefit from a black pair, a denim pair in whatever wash you prefer, and a colored pair (although I dare you to stop at one!)

Dolman Sweater- Eloquii last year (similar style)

I've also had a few comments about my wedge booties,so I wanted to show you a close up and give you some links (including a pair from Target for less than $13!).

Wedges- Cato's (similar, similar, similar)

I remember in 2006 when they came back in style and I was all "Hell to the no!" It took me till 2009 to hop on the skinny bandwagon. I kept remembering the horrors of my peg leg jeans from the 90s that my Mom forced on me. (They had stirrups.) My manager at Deb basically said I work in a fashion clothing store, it's my job to be trendy, wear the darn pants! I bought a black pair and haven't looked back! my problem with Old Navy is finding pairs that are short enough, since I'm 5'2" and petite length does not always come in plus sizes.
I love how skinnies make you look long and lean and put together, and of course show off whatever shoes you are wearing. Definitely a favorite now! (But I still love my flares, even if i'm the only one wearing them!)

I totally agree about the Old Navy Rockstar skinnies. Some people really dislike them, but I find them to be pretty awesome. I have 2 pairs and plan to buy more. You just can't beat the price and they seriously have it in every color possible.

I love those booties. How come I never find cute shoes at Target!? I don't think I have ANY. I know, I'm surprised too. Have a great weekend! :)

Love me some skinny jeans! I haven't tried Old Navy's jeans in a long time, but I remember never having any luck with them in the past. They tend to stretch on me throughout the day and leave me with saggy butt - does that happen to you in them?

You look so pretty in these teal hues :) Have a great weekend, Katie!!

I totally agree with you about sizing being the primary concern with skinny jeans. My legs are pretty curvy and it took me ages to find a pair that didn't bag in weird places or stretch throughout the day. I still haven't found my perfect pair those, these ones look gorgeous though. And I love the way you rolled them up to show off your boots xo

Love you outfit! That sweater is gorgeous. I still don't own a pair of skinnies. Really! I thought I was getting a pair when I bought a pair of AE jeans at Goodwill, but then I noticed it said straight leg on the tag. They're very skinny jean looking when you hold them up, but I guess they're not tight enough in the knee area to be classified as skinnies. lol I have heard lots of great reviews about Old Navy's Rockstar ones. I should try them.

Have a great weekend! =)

I love the denim colored and black versions of the Rockstar jeans, but the pop colors just don't fit me right, even when I size up. I love skinny jeans, skinny trousers, skinny corduroys. Who cares if my legs look like turkey drumsticks? I sure don't :)

I don't know if most women look good in skinny jeans. I tried on a few pairs recently and I had to take pictures of myself in the dressing room mirror because it was that hilariously bad. Really, really, really bad. Like ice cream cone horror show bad. I've tried them on and off over the years from different brands and nothing works for my body. I am a big fan of boot cut jeans, I don't think they ever go out of style, and they balance out my figure. I also like when I can just step out of pants instead of having to dance and wriggle my way out...easier to get my PJs on that way. :D

Ive realized of late skinny jeans are not for me BUT straight leg jeans are just fine. I think the leg opening on skinny jeans are too tight on my big calves. Straight leg jeans (which I like to think are skinny jeans big sister!) give me enough room in the leg.

Katie, those wedges are swoon worthy! I have a pair of blue skinny jeans but no black ones. I must remedy that STAT! Have a nice weekend! :)

You already know of my love for Old Navy! I am bummed that I missed their sale but I know they will have another and then I will stock up!! They have some polka dot jeans I want SO SO SO bad!!

The Rockstar doesn't work for me at all. I have a small waist (for my size) so when I get the right waist size the legs are too tight. The Sweetheart works better but it doesn't come in nearly as many colors. However, I found these at Dressbarn today: http://www.dressbarn.com/detail/roz--stretch-colored-jeggings/101216573/572 They are cut for a more hourglass shape and sit high enough on my waist to avoid the dreaded muffin top. I even went DOWN a size!

These are cute on you! My skinnies I wear frequently are also from Old Navy. :-)

Eloquii also has pants and jeans cut "Curvy" with smaller waists for those of you blessed with that beautiful hourglass figure! They are having a pretty great sale right now, and I love everything I've ever gotten from them :)

Good point, Sarah! There's definitely some shimmying that goes on! Boot cut is definitely a classic cut- I won't be getting rid of mine anytime soon! I also love a nice trouser or wide leg!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I'm with you right there! The amount of spandex stretch is way different in the colored denim, which I guess is necessary, but sucks nonetheless.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Straight leg is still a nice option! Keep looking- you need a pair, especially if you have any cute boots!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Alice! I know exactly what you are taking about. Skinny jeans have to be experimented with!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Do it now! There's a coupon code online! I'm buying more today!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I've yet to find a pair of Target skinny jeans in my size- they run so small! Let me know!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Hmmmm.... Well,, I have a big ol' booty that keeps my backside filled out, so I don't sag in the back. However, they do absolutely stretch out. I am seriously considering buying one of these belts because all of my pants are bigger these days (such an awesome feeling) and I can't/won't buy new pairs.

I only shop online for Target stuff (although I HATE their website big time, they have way more selection than in the stores!). Also Old Navy has 30% off going on right now, and it was just your birthday... I think it's time to do some shopping!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Ah, yes, stirrup pants. I do remember those days- though not super fondly. However, stirrups have been making a small comeback which is pretty ingenious for keeping pants smooth as you pull on boots. Everything just cycles back around!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Right?! ;) I must have been PMS'ing that day or something!

Leighleigh Uzumaki said...

Lol. My trick is to put my socks on over my jeans to keep everything down in my boot!

Do you size up in the super skinny from what you normally wear in ON jeans. I've been wanting to order some, but not sure which size to order and I'm terrible about not returning things.

Cute wedge booties! I recently tried a very similar-looking pair, but ended up buying another because the tips were pinching my toes. Yours look really great!
