| Pensively reviewing the year that was 2012 |
In August, I resolved to work out three days a week, and honestly, I've done a pretty good job with this resolution. I started working out, quietly and with no fanfare back in July, not for reasons of vanity, but for a variety of self-inflicted health issues, and since then I have lost 25 pounds. I don't exactly enjoy working out, but I don't dread it like I used to either. In 2013, I am bumping up my commitment to working out FOUR days a week. I know I can do this!
I also resolved to pick up Sean and make dinner at least two or three nights a week. While I wasn't perfect with this resolution, I did much better than I have in the past. Sean likes going to the gym with me. Curtis and I plan out our meals over the weekend and do most of the prep on Sunday, so it's a lot easier to decide to eat at home, instead of the dreaded drive-thru dinner. Go me!

My final resolution was school related, and this is one I still need to work on. Teaching is definitely rewarding and gratifying, but it is also exhausting and aggravating and frustrating. It's a thankless job; I don't care what anyone else says in the contrary- they are full of crap. We are expected to raise children because too often their parents won't or have given up, but often our hands are tied with bureaucracy. Okay, I'm going to stop ranting now. I want to focus on what I CAN change and what I CAN do for the rest of this year, instead of stressing out about things that are completely out of my control.
I'm also going to be trying out a few different things on the blog this year, as I continue to grow and mature as a blogger. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading- whether this is the first time or if you check in daily, weekly or monthly. Thank you for contributing on my Facebook and Twitter. Thank you for commenting and following. I appreciate more than mere words can express!
Now go out and kick 2013's butt!

I think it's great that you make your resolutions mid-year instead of in January. Now, while everyone else is trying to get into the gym, you've already been working out for the last 5-6 months! Feels good, huh??
Love your tweed, THRIFTED(!) jacket. You look so cute :)
Happy new year, Katie! Love how the green top looks against the tweed. You are doing so great with your resolutions so far!!

My best friend is a teacher, so I know how you feel. We met her first year teaching and I was a freshman in high school. She sort of adopted me. She definitely changed my life and I can only imagine where I would be without her today. Someday, you will get the one student that makes it all worth while. You will change their life and they will change yours.
ON a fashion note: Love the tweed and top. I feel like it looks totally rocking on you cause you do not have long hair to make it matronly! Win!

You look great Katie! Love your entire outfit! WTG with your exercise regimen! I started in the gym in October and I'm seeing some results. I've lost a little weight, but tons of inches!
Love this tweed jacket on you, and you definitely made it pop! Seems like you are doing very well on your resolutions this year! Cheers to 2013! :)

Congrats on your progress towards your school year resolutions! You are doing a much better job than I am at taking steps towards improving your health. I've been much better about eating at home, but I still can't drag my booty to the gym in the morning. You look fantastic, and I hope you feel it too!
Happy New Year pretty lady! I am in love with your tweedy look - that last picture... GORGEOUS! So good to hear that you are kicking some resolution booty! Keep up the good work!!
Cheers to 2013!

Here&Now
P.S. Sorry I have been an absent commenter lately, the past month or so has been pretty hectic, but I wanted you to know that I love reading your blog, and was just thrilled to find some time to catch myself up on what you have been up to lately :)
so cute! I love tweed and I am falling in love with olive green more and more!
i think you have some great resolutions, and you did such a great job last year. you look amazing!! happy new year. and please know that while we don't always show it, there are some parents who can't ever thank their kids' teachers enough for all they do. i never expect them to raise my kids, but teaching is a skill that only few are truly good at. keep it up, you are amazing!
First off you look fabulous in that tweed jacket! I want one now!
Second I like how you checked in with yourself regarding your resolutions. Many times we just forget about the promises we made to ourselves so its good that you are trying to stick with them. Also its good that your resolutions are still a work in progress!
I can't wait to see what 2013 holds for you! I've done great at my vegetarian resolution from last year, but I need to step up my working out. Also, I am still envious of your boots, but guess what?? I found some online that, according to the reviews, should fit me. They were on clearance, so I went ahead and bought them. *fingers crossed* Happy New Year/mid-year!
Can't wait for whatever changes you're making to the blog this year! Love your pop of color and very cool necklaces! Also proud of you sticking to your resolutions! :)
Those this outfit! Especially that pop of color with the shirt! Cannot wait to see what 2013 has in store for you!
That is so awesome! I love your tips for the tweed jacket too.

Congrats on sticking to your goals!
Wow, you've lost 25 lbs? I'm proud of you for taking care of your health. And, your outfit is fantastic, Katie!
First, I'm so glad I just found your blog. I think I'm in love. Second, I'm a teacher too and I love the idea of setting resolutions at the start of the school year. And also, I completely agree that people who bash teachers and say we have it easy because we get summers off can suck it!
Love this outfit on you Katie! Congratulations on keeping up with your resolutions! Losing 25 lbs is awesome. Hope you're feeling the benefits. =)
I totally agree that a lot of people take teachers for granted and often act like the job is soo easy. I on the other hand have a very high respect for teachers and make a point to let my daughter's teacher know how much I appreciate her. You know I made up a "survival kit" for her for the first day of school. But I didn't do a blog post about the gift basket I made her for Christmas. Along with all the little gifts, I wrote her a very heartfelt card letting her know how much we love her and appreciate all that she does for Adia. It made her cry. And she gave me the biggest hug and thanked me over and over. It made my day to make her soo happy!
Happy 2013 and all the best to you and your family! =)

I love tweed with that shade of chartreuse green. Looks fantastic on you. I also work in education and often confuse other people with the "new year/new SCHOOL year" thing, too. Like in August, when the new school year starts, I'll often say things like "last year in February...", meaning last school year, even though February is still the current calendar year.
And I agree with you that one's health and exercise regime should be their own business, not up for discussion with others aside from your doctor, unless you really want to. Personally, I don't like to read a lot of blogs where people discuss their health and exercise regimes. If the blog is specifically created to help the author keep track of his or her health, exercise and eating habits, and it's clear that's the author's purpose, that's my clue to stay away because I'm not a big fan of reading about those things. If a blogger mentions their health and exercise regimes occasionally, I don't mind. But for the most part, I read size acceptance blogs to help keep me inspired on my journey of size and self-acceptance, and to see pics of bloggers in fabulous and fun outfits, which also keeps me inspired stylistically. I don't really want to read about someone's health and exercise goals.
25 lbs?!?! That's so awesome Katie!!! Congratulations!! You should be so proud of yourself! My job is very different than yours (I'm a Marketing Manager), but my boss always tells me that being a Manager is a thankless job. You are always expected to praise and motivate your employees, but chances are, no one will do that for you. Even though being a teacher is way more challenging and thankless than my job (my Mom's a teacher, so I've heard the stories), I sort of understand how you feel. Focusing on the things we CAN change is great advice for anyone! You look fabulous btw!!

Good for you keeping up with your NY resolutions! I'm actually quite impressed by how faithfully you've fulfilled them :) I'm not as good at that! I'm trying to work out at least three times a week this year too, we'll see how that goes!

First off, *love* this outfit. I've had a great tweed jacket for a while that I've been clueless about styling, but now I'm getting excited about wearing it in different ways. Pinned this for inspiration - I like that the top you chose has pleating down the front. I have a similar top that I want to pair with my tweed jacket now. :)
Second, I hear ya on the teaching thing. There's so much we can't change, but there's a lot we can do to open up students' eyes to their own potential and the world.
I'm thoroughly impressed that you did so well on your resolutions! Here's to another productive and fruitful 2013! :)
congrats on the 25 pounds! I am making a resolution to run more this year in prep for my second marathong. I would love to finish in under 3 hours this time.

Glad I'm not the only educator damn near ignoring a "real" calendar year- why can't we get these things on the same path/
I am the same with blogs who start getting all crazy about losing weight. I purposely never mentioned it because I didn't want readers to assume I was trying to "get skinny"- which is absolutely the last thing on my mind!!! I have to get healthy to get off diabetes medication. It's definitely not a vanity thing!
Thank you Amanda!
Awww, thank you, Brynn!
I really try to focus on inches and not pounds! Good for you too!
