So, I turned to Pinterest to give me some inspiration, and ultimately chose to recreate one of the very first outfits I ever pinned. Sometimes simple is best, especially when you are feeling out of sorts.

These pieces are all more than a year old, and I consider them all to be "classics" for any wardrobe- black dress, brown boots, and brown belt- nice and easy. I know some women still consider mixing black and brown together to be one of the ultimate fashion faux pas, but I think this look is just perfect and that's important on days like today.
When I feel like nothing fits, or I have nothing to wear, or everything is boring and dull, I struggle with getting discouraged and comparing myself to everyone else. It's not a healthy way to feel, so I am glad it doesn't happen very often!
It seems silly and shallow, but sometimes it is nice to know that you have an elegant outfit that makes you feel good on days when you feel like everything is going wrong. For me, this is that outfit. It's probably that simple elegance that appealed to me over a year and a half ago when I pinned it, and continues to appeal to me today.
P.S. Sorry I sounded like a downer today, gals! Here's a sneak peek at my Gwynnie Bee selection for later this week. How can I not smile when wearing this dress??

Aw, cheer up Katie! Think of March and that will put a smile on your face ;)
I know how you feel, though, and sometimes finding a simple, classic outfit that makes you feel great is all it takes to put your mood right. I love black & brown together, and the pops of turquoise from your jewelry are so pretty with it!
The weather is making me feel pretty down too...I am very happy that it's almost March and it'll be warm again soon. Love the simplicity and ease of this outfit! Thank goodness for Pinterest, right?

Katie,
I think you look totally gorgeous, beautiful and NOT a downer! It's okay to feel whatever the heck you want to! You will get out of it... winter can do that to people!
I really love black and brown together and with the turquoise jewlery, love! My favorite!
And I can't remember if I told you but I LOVE your hair! It's so fresh and young!

Ugh, we all have those days. But you look awesome and so chic in this! My go-to on not-so-great days are always easy dresses and belts too. It's easy and totally within my comfort zone.
I love the simple outfit. I think you look so pretty and effortless. We all have those days, so don't worry!

You look great! And I'm pretty sure I have that same outfit pinned too. I feel the same way sometimes. As much as I love clothes, I pretty much never have the funds to buy anything new. (That's why I love to do my fashion posts.) My wardrobe is VERY small and I feel like I wear the same things all the time. I try to mix is up with scarves. You snap out of your funk and be back to your normal self soon. =) Hugs!!
Thank goodness for pinterest :) Such a classic outfit, and I love the pops of turquoise!

Those days are the worst! I hate looking at all the stuff in my closet and saying "nope, don't want to wear that" over and over again. : \ This outfit is elegant, chic and simple. I'm glad you have a go-to outfit for those tough days!
I haven't read your blog in a few months (or really any blogs for that matter) but I just saw that you cut your hair. Holy moly! I can't say how much I love it! I think your hair cut did for you what it did for Anne Hathaway- it took her from pretty and cute to stunning. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I wonder sometimes if a transformation that amazing is lying underneath my long hair. I need to take a few months to work up some more nerve though. Great blog.
Goodness gracious, Katie. You are so beautiful. I love this outfit - black and brown (especially this shade of brown) is SO sophisticated, and easy!!!
I have a dress very very similar to that. I must recreate :)
Who thinks black and brown together is a faux pas?? I love them paired together! And I love this look - you look stunning. Hope you feel more like yourself soon - these phases are always temporary :)

I have loved that pin for a long time and have seen a lot of people recreate it, but your recreation is my favorite so far!
The turquoise accessories are what really makes this outfit!
I love the outfit too, and I am certain I have the same pin! Looks great on you!

I have the same pin, too, but have yet to recreate the outfit. I am definitely one of those people that doesn't like to mix black and brown, but I think that can be put aside if it's brown accessories instead of clothing!
You look adorable, by the way!
