Weekend Wear: Geo Print Sweater

I spend so much time during the week dressing up, that usually by the time the weekend rolls around, I  am perfectly content to lounge around in my pajamas for 48 straight hours. Sometimes, thought, the day entails a little more effort. Saturday night Curtis and I went out to watch a movie and grab a bite to eat, and I was so excited to get to wear my first purchase in months.

Sweater- Forever 21 (similar here)
Skinny Jeans- Old Navy
Boots- Old Navy (similar here, wide calf option here)
Necklace- Forever 21
I have been looking for a Geo Print Sweater for months now, and last week within the span of three hours two of my favorite bloggers, Franish and Tieka, mentioned this Forever 21 sweater. Before the night was done, I had ordered it. Back in October, I made a conscience effort to buy less. It's been pretty easy with my Gwynnie Bee membership, and one month of no shopping turned into two and two turned into three, but I guess the streak is over.

However, just that short break from shopping has really opened my eyes to how much I have and how much I waste. That's not to say that I am a reformed shopaholic. I still fight the urge every day to hop online and buy myself something new and pretty, especially when I've had a bad day at work, but I really try to keep myself busy with other activities until the urge passes.

What do you do to avoid buying unnecessarily?

I have major cardigan envy - I love the tribal look/feel and blanket appeal... it looks so cozy and warm!

I love this cardigan! I think it was definitely worth lifting your shopping ban for :) And Forever 21?! I never would have guessed.

To avoid buying unnecessary items, I usually try and think of another item in my closet that's similar. 9 times out of 10 I already have something similar (colorful heels, tote bag, etc) and so I convince myself I don't need it... even though I really WANT it :) It's hard, for sure!

That cardigan looks so soft and comfy! I love the tribal print! I haven't done much shopping lately either mainly because my money needs to go to other things. I've been shopping my closet more and it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I love this sweater on you! The best way for me to not go out and shop... live in a place where there are tons of snow storms, haha. I haven't been out in awhile because it's just too cold! I don't shop online too often either because I like to try stuff on, which is good or else I'd be broke! :)

I thought my year-long hiatus from shopping would mean that I thought about shopping (and clothes) less, but, alas, that hasn't worked. Still, it has helped me get some perspective on my closet. I have so much stuff! And I think I'd rather have fewer awesome pieces that I love than an endless closet of so-so stuff.

I love this sweater. I can be really bad about not getting the things I've been looking for/really wanting and then doing a sudden splurge (often on things I don't really want/need). So I've been trying to weed out my closet and really look for my closet needs, write it as a list or pinterest board and stick to it. It makes me feel better if I'm paying more for an item I really have been looking for and ironically makes me feel better about NOT spending money too, even with sales (oh, it is not on my list!)

Of course, now I have a wedding and honeymoon to pay for so I know all my money goes towards those :)

Gwynnie bee definitely helps curb the shopping cravings, but they are still very much there. I'm trying to shop more intentionally. I go shopping looking for a specific item or type of item. If something catches my eye I brainstorm how I'll style it for work and for weekends. Love the sweater :)

Your sweater is really cute, and it looks sooo cozy.

In order to decrease my spending, I only really allow myself to buy things that are on my "wish list" of items I've been wanting. I'm really picky about these pieces, so it helps me to not buy things just to buy them.

I have a sweater almost like that that I bought from Target last fall. I am actually wearing it today, lol!

Some days, I have to sit on my hands. But I promised that this year I would spend less. I am currently failing miserably.
You look really pretty. But you always do! :)

I am seriously trying to buy less, but I am sooo bad at self-restraint...haha. I think this sweater was worth breaking the streak!

I have too many clothes. Does this stop me from buying more? Not so much. I did join GB, but so far, the things I've liked from there, I've really liked...and I want to buy them....sigh. Otherwise, as far as household stuff, I don't overstock on things, because we have limited storage space. And I try to go easy on the shoes, because I know me, and while I may own a lot of shoes, I don't actually wear them. I also don't really buy many purses, because I hate switching purses.

It is so hard to deny myself but my closet is stuffed with cute clothes. I'm trying to save for a great trip next Dec. to New Orleans and then a cruise to Jamaica so I keep trying but...I give in sometimes.

This looks fantastic on you - I like it even more than my own, which is embarrassing since yours was half the price haha. I used to be such a shopoholic (maybe some would say I still am but...I disagree) - just buying whatever to make myself feel better. It makes me feel better now to know what I'm buying has a purpose in my closet.
