Blow Me Away

I'm technically on spring break this week, but it's not one I'm looking forward to. The weather is terrible (these photos were taken last Saturday, which was a beautiful day, of course)- cold and rainy. And tomorrow I am having sinus surgery, a septoplasty and turbinoplasty to be exact. Y'all, I am scared to death, seriously! Kinda like horrific birth stories, mention that you are having surgery to fix a deviated septum just brings people out of the woodwork. "Let me tell you about MY surgery," they start, before launching into a terrifying tale of blood and gore and pain.

All, that is to say that I'm not exactly sure what my blogging schedule is going to look at. I've gathered up some posts. I've got a few, fun guest posts planned, and I guess we will see how I feel and take it one day at a time. At first I was a little bummed about spending my spring break in bed, napping and watching movies and surfing the web, but then I had to be totally honest with myself. Really, that's not too different from what I would have done (except with the addition of bloody gauze and pain pills), so I can't be too bitter.

So many inappropriate photos as a result of the windy conditions! I spared you.
You are welcome.

Vainly, I am afraid of my nose looking "different" post surgery. I kept hearing "Empty Nose Syndrome" and imagining my nose collapsing like Michael Jackson's did or Stevie Nicks' after years of cocaine abuse.

For the record, it's totally not your nose collapsing in on itself, but it's still a scary name!  Plus, I'm pretty attached to this nose, despite the constant sinus infections and insane snoring. I'm assured that structurally, from the outside, it won't change. But my ENT also incredulously informed me that I had the WORST deviated septum he had ever seen. So if someone were to, oh I don't know, have his or her beloved nose collapse in on itself, it would be me.

P.S. Have you ever seen a cuter spring dress?? Cats. Hearts. Red. Turquoise. Eshakti just blows my mind sometimes! New customers can get $25 dollars off their first order and free customization. If you haven't tried Eshakti yet now's a great time because they have some super cute spring dresses available! I am eyeing this one or this one next!

I had sinus surgery two years ago and it was the best thing I ever did! Yes, it was painful, but I am a wuss, and was still able to only take pain meds for less than 24 hours.

By far the worst part is the packing. When it comes out it's disgusting. Prepare yourself for that. But literally once it's out, recovery goes sooo fast! 6 days post surgery I was at the dentist having my teeth cleaned!

You will be amazed at how well you can breathe afterwards! )about 1-2 weeks post op)

Best of luck! Just think this time next year you will be so glad you did it!

I had the same surgery in 2005 right before Christmas. I didnt have any problems or complications. I agree with Charity Brooke, the worst part is when they pull the packing out.

Beautiful dress! I may have to snatch one up while they still have that lovely print!

That dress is the cat's meow (har har?). You look so cute! Don't stress about the surgery - remember, Kevin said it's not bad at all (aside from the black eyes). You will be back on your feet in no time, and I hope you enjoy your recovery time as much as possible :)

That dress is adorable on you! My husband has a deviated septum too but he's scared of having the surgery and still having the same problem. I'm curious to know how yours goes!

You look super super pretty, love the dress! All the best for your surgery, you're a strong woman yo! You don't need to worry, you will be fine :) Get plenty of rest!

You look like a cute little cupcake in this dress! I love it! I am sure your surgery will be fine. I know that stuff is scary though. When I was 15, my best friend had his deviated septum surgery and everything went fine for him. His nose remains in tact.

As for eShakti, I have sung their praises on my blog. I love the 3 tops I bought from them. However, the two dresses I bought had to be returned. I do customization on all of them, same measurements. But the dresses have HUGE tops and perfect skirts. I have no idea what is going on and it is frustrating me.

GOOD LUCK on your surgery!! I'm sure it will go well and (after a week or two) you will be so happy you did it. :-)

Okay, first of all, you look darling in your dress. eShakti has so many great styles available!

On to the surgery. GOOD LUCK! I know several people who have had this surgery and I've heard nothing bad. I do understand that anxiety, though. I have had some minor outpatient surgeries like that, and even though I know I'll be okay, I still get so nervous, and play the "what if" game with myself :( To be honest, this is probably the best time for you to have the surgery - you have plenty of time to recover and rest up! I can't wait to hear how well it goes :)

PS. Your tags on this post made me laugh a little bit: Michael Jackson's nose and Stevie Nicks nose :)

I completely understand how you feel. Ive had two surgeries (one major) within the past 2 years, so I can sympathize with not wanting to go under the knife. With that said, you look so CUTE! Im totally obsessed with Eshakti. I have a dress on its way now!

Hope the surgery went well and your comfy on the couch watching some sort of marathon on Netflix. I would highly recommend Vampire Diaries! Seriously, you'll be hooked around episode 4 or 5.

And that dress is soo cute! Love the color combo. =)

And I totally have that dress. Seriously, this might be the third or fourth item that we both have. I promise I am not Single White Female-ing you...haha. And seriously, can't they rename "empty nose syndrome" something less scary? Like stuffy nose syndrome.

Katie, that dress is ADORABLE! (I want it!) Hope your surgery goes well. I'm sure it will. (I once had the worst case of tonsillitis my doctor had ever seen and I was fine!) Happy spring break. (Grab an extra blanket and cuddle up on that couch!)

I haven't left my living room for nearly 3 days. Just chilling in the recliner. I had a terrible tonsil experience as a child, so compared to that- this has been a walk in the park!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

We just have similar tastes, that's all! I actually thought about you when I picked it out!!!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Heather! It's going to be great for spring and summer, as long as it's not windy!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you, Yi-chia! Recovery is slow-going but I am staying hydrated and taking my pain meds :)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

They have TOOOO many cute dresses. It's ridiculous!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you! Thank you!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you. I figured it'd be better to spend spring break recovering than the beginning of my summer. It was a tough call though!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Funny you laugh about the tags. I had a friend bring by lunch yesterday, and she has had THREE similar nose surgeries. Well, with one of the it was reconstructive because the left side of her nose collapsed! My worst nightmare!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thanks, AJ. I sure hope so!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I always have to pay attention to the fabric. If it says "no stretch" they ain't kidding!!! This dress is too tight up top because it's one of those materials with no give. Live and learn, Katie.

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you so much! :)

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Right?!? Too much cuteness in one dress- there's no way I could resist!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

It's no joke (the recovery) but I really believe it's going to be worth it when I can breathe freely and not sick with sinus infections all the time! I hope!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Damn, why didn't I name the blog that? I am enjoying recovery, you know I love being lazy, but I wish I could open my mouth wide enough to eating real food!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I am really digging this 50s silhouette lately. Too flattering and flirty to me!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Packing comes out tomorrow and I am DEFINITELY terrified. I just keep telling myself it will only take a few minutes!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

That's what I'm hoping!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

Thank you so much, Ashleigh!

Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie said...

I dread the packing coming out tomorrow but I also look forward to it. I know I will feel so much better, but I am afraid I may puke or bleed and bleed and bleed!
