Weekend Warrior: Elephant-Print Shirt Dress

The weather was just absolutely perfect this past Saturday. We spent the morning cleaning up around the house- I worked inside, while Curtis tackled the lawn for the first time this spring. For lunch, I have a craving for crawfish, so I Yelped to find the best reviews in town, and that's how we ended up at a dive bar with no signage outside at noon on a Saturday. The bar was empty, except for a party on the patio, but the beer was cold and the crawfish was cheap and delicious.

Shirt dress- Gap Outlet (similar from Gap, under $50, here, here, and here)
Moccasins- Nordstroms

This was the THIRD time I've worn this dress with the intentions of photographing it for the blog (the first two times didn't pan out). Let me tell you about this dress. It was the dress that almost got away. Back in March I saw this cute elephant-print shirt dress at my local Gap Outlet. It was a little on the expensive side (like most Gap items), so even though I loved it, I passed on buying it. A week later, it was still on my mind. I headed back to the outlet only to discover they had sold out.

Of course, there is no Gap Outlet online store, so I pretty much felt like I was out of luck. I even checked at a Gap Outlet in California when I was out there visiting Megan, but it was to no avail. Fast forward to about a month later, and I am back in my local Gap Outlet. We were standing in line, and what do I spy behind the counter? This dress. I asked, tentatively, if it was on hold for someone or if it was being restocked. After some conversing between managers, they determined it was not on hold. First hurdle cleared. Then I checked the size. Holding my breath, I checked the tag.

And score! The dress was mine, AND 40% off! Booyah! So my weekend was filled with elephants and "mud bugs". One is delicious to eat, and the other is delightful to wear. Try not to get 'em confused! Do you have any items in your closet that almost "got away"?

Yay! Our Gap Outlet is also the clearance center, so there's never anything over $30. And those items are usually the higher end stuff from Piperlime. I'm SO very jealous of that elephant print dress! It fits just perfect and is really fun to boot!

LOVE THAT DRESS!!! So adorable and such a fun print. I am so glad you were able to find it. What was the name of the bar? My parents might want to try it next time they are in town.

So cute! The item in my closet that almost got away is the Kiyonna Maggie dress in the polka dot. I had been eyeballing it on Kiyonna's site for months, waffling about whether I really wanted to pay that much for something when I hadn't ordered from them before and wasn't sure about fit, quality, blah blah. It went on sale. I still waffled. When I finally decided to buy it, it was sold out. I kept checking back, and one day, it was there again! In my size! I ordered it right away, and it is twoo wuv. I keep hoping they'll bring it back in some new colors & prints, because the fit is perfect, it's flattering, and even if it falls off the hanger and it's a week before you notice, it does not wrinkle even a little bit.

Amazing dress - I really like that all the elephants have upturned trunks - they're all lucky! And so are you, for finding that dress for a great price and in your size. :)

I have it my usual size and it "just fits" and i end up wearing it with leggings (it's a little short when I sit otherwise). I wish I had tried it on to know to go up a size so I could wear it all year. And now it seems to be all gone :( But I love elephants so I wear it as much as I can otherwise. I also got it's "cousin" a sleeveless button-down shirt in the same pattern with black rather than navy elephants, wearing it right now in fact!
