Kindergarten Blues... and a Floral Dress

Yesterday after school I enrolled my baby in kindergarten for next year. It was a moment I had been dreading for about two years, but I knew he was excited. So it was a bittersweet time. When we pulled up to the elementary school he closely inspected their TWO (!) playgrounds with pleasure. However, he wasn't so sure about the school itself. He kept asking if I was taking him to the dentist (I guess the outside resembles his dentist office a little bit?!)!

Forever 21 Plus Dress- still available!

While I filled out enough paperwork to buy another house, or sell my child to the public education system for at least the next 13 years, he played happily in the school library with some of the other new students. I decided to wear this super cute Forever 21+ dress again because I can't get enough of its bright pattern. To pull out the subtle gold details, I knotted a green and gold belt and wore green and gold shoes. Sean wore a Super Mario Bros. muscle shirt. I did not get any pictures of that ;)

Dress
Belt- exact from Target
Shoes- similar, similar

So does it get any easier? Last night I let Sean sleep with us. It's a habit we are trying to break, but last night I just wanted my baby in the bed with me. This morning I woke up and felt his hair- it's so coarse and thick now but he used to have the sweetest blond curls- and his tiny shoulder blades- like a bird under my fingertips, so delicate and small- and I wished I could hold on to that moment forever. I thought to myself, "I wish I could freeze time and keep him 5 forever." Then he farted and rolled away from me. Oh well.

It gets easier. I have two, so we already went through the whole thing with my daughter. My son starts kindergarten this fall and I just feel like, MAN, about time! He's not a large child but since he's been the same size as my daughter since he was 1 it always feels like they are supposed to be doing the same thing at the same time. I feel like he is 7 instead of 5. We'll see how brave I am at pre-school graduation in two weeks though! I think I'll take your idea and wear a brightly colored floral dress!

Such a lovely dress! Ooh, your sandals are so cute! I was such a mess when I signed my son up for for PreK and Kindergarten...now he's in the fourth grade. Time goes by so fast when they are little.

Where have I been? I'm just getting caught up on the few blogs I regularly read. This is the first post I've read, of the many that I've missed. Love that dress!!

It will get a teeny tiny bit easier. My baby girl is 7 and in first grade. I still shed a few tears on the walk home, alone, the first day of school. It's crazy how fast they grow up! She never slept with us, but now she wants to have a sleepover with me. lol I told her one night I'll make daddy sleep on the couch and she and I can have a movie night in my bed and a "sleepover". Sean will love school!! Hang tough mama! =)

Hope you're doing well and your sinus issues are now a thing of the past.

Aw, I can only imagine how you must be feeling! They grow up so fast. My sister is significantly younger than I am (I used to change her diapers) and she turns 18 this year. What a smart cookie you have. I'd be stoked about the two playgrounds too:)

I'm sure you're feeling bittersweet today! I bet it helps a little bit that Sean is excited about kindergarten :) You look so pretty in that dress. Whenever I go on the F21 website, I never see cute things like that dress...I only see the really extreme things like a skirt made out of feathers and tie-dye chambray shirt dresses. :(

PS. I totally laughed about Sean farting and rolling away.

I love a good print, and that dress is amazing on you! Loving the green and gold belt and shoes too. :)
It's good to hear that Sean is looking forward to starting kindergarten! I've taught kinders for enrichment programs during school breaks and had a few who will bawl their eyes out for the first 45 minutes ... SO not used to that after a few years teaching upper grades, haha. :)

That dress is so pretty on you. I like the colors and the print. It's amazing what a big deal kindergarten is...for the parents! Seeing my oldest board the big yellow school bus the for first time as a kindergartner last September, I had to hold back bittersweet tears.

I can't believe he's only 5! Doesn't he take your pictures sometimes?!?! Or maybe I am mistaking that with him going with you to take pictures, but I swear there was at least a time or two he took your pic.

Anyway, you look beautiful as usual my dear!
