Brands I Buy: Target- Summer Edition

Yesterday I went grocery shopping with one of my friends and her precious son. We went under the guise of "grocery shopping" because that sounded better to our husbands than saying we were going to spend a lot of money at Target. See, you gotta be smart!

As a teacher, I don't get many chances to dress down, so I take full advantage of the casual nature of summertime. I've already told you that I am living in my Old Navy denim shorts, but I thought I would share with you some of my favorite casual pieces from Target as well!

Like always, scrolling over or clicking on the photos below will give you shopping details!

In case I feel the need to dress up at any point during the summer, Target had several dresses that struck my fancy. I require that any dress I wear during the summer MUST be sleeveless and flowy, but apparently this summer I am also requiring STRIPES! Every dress I looked at was striped! It wasn't on purpose I swear. Technically I already have three striped dresses and couldn't possible need anymore, but I have most definitely added two of the following dresses to my own summer wardrobe... Oops!

Family Vacation 2014

Whew! I know I'm not the only one who needs a vacation AFTER my vacation, right? This month has been a whirlwind of healthy-eating, soccer-playing, kindergarten-graduation, and general end-of-schooling, so when my mother-in-law suggested we all convene in the mountains of Tennessee for a short family vacation, we jumped at the chance. Being a half-day drive from Gatlinburg and the Great Smokey Mountains, we have made this trip quite often, but it's always an enjoyable one!

Our first priority, at least according to Sean, was finding a couple of go-kart tracks so he could live out his Mario-Kart fantasies. True story- I am hell on wheels in real life, and I have multiple speeding tickets to prove it, but I am a big chicken when it comes to go-karts. Luckily, the family "needed" someone to take pictures, so I was happy to oblige. I don't think Sean's ever been happier! I've got to find a go-kart track closer to home!

Later in the afternoon, we headed out to the Aquarium of the Smokies for more family fun. Unfortunately, Sean seemed to think he was still of the tracks and FLEW through the exhibits, so I have no photos of him in there, but here are some of my favorite pics Curtis managed to capture.

After dinner that night, we headed into the "Holler" for some moonshine tasting (and maybe buying!). The Ole Smokey Moonshine Distillery was a TON of fun. Unfortunately, it was so crowded it was impossible to get good photos. We were crammed elbow-to-elbow at the tasting table, but it was totally worth it. We sampled all THIRTEEN available flavors, and our awesome moonshiner Frank threw in a couple of extra "shots" as well. There are some photos of the debauchery on my Instagram feed and I think the multiple distilleries that have opened recently are a great addition to downtown Gatlinburg. But maybe that's just the lush in me.

Later this week, I will share a little more from our trip. Truth be told, I didn't do any "fashion shoots" because I lived in the same pair of distressed denim shorts and t-shirts all weekend long.  However, I can't recommend these denim shorts from Old Navy enough. They were the perfect length, perfectly broken in, all that good stuff. If I can find them on sale again, I will definitely snatch up another pair! Click on any photo below for shopping info!

So what are YOU doing this summer!??

Weekend Wear: Maxi Dress & Aztec Scarf

I learned two things this weekend. One: I should wear sunglasses in my photos more often. They hide a multitude of sins, including this weird, growing-out length of my hair currently, and the fact that I didn't wear any eye make-up Saturday. We were at the soccer field for one of Sean's games, and every time I'm out there, my eyes water so bad, I end up crying all of it off. So this Saturday I just decided to not bother. But I like the glasses look. I feel like a movie star, very glamorous ;)

I also learned that I CANNOT flip pancakes. Whatever magic you need, whatever combination of perfect heat, perfect batter, perfect spatula, I am missing it. I tried to surprise Curtis with pumpkin and banana pancakes for breakfast Sunday morning, and  it was a total disaster. He came into a smoke-filled kitchen with me cursing the world and Lulu loudly whining for a bite. I was so frustrated! All I did was make a huge mess of the kitchen! The pancakes tasted fine, but they sure were homely.

Dress- Old Navy, last year (Similar here, here, and here)
Scarf- Zulily (Similar here and here)
Glasses- Forever 21 (Buy here)
Purse- Old Navy (Available colors here)

In hindsight, I realize it really didn't matter what the pancakes looked like. They were cooked and filling and yummy. No one was there to see that they didn't look fluffy and picture-perfect. They weren't documented on Instagram for everyone to envy, but you know what? They still got the job done. Same thing with not wearing eye make-up. Nobody cared. Nobody noticed. But I was still self-conscious about not being presentable.Lately I have found that I am being especially tough on myself, and it's something I'm working on.
